I really like tattoos on a guys arms or chest. Not mad about face or hand ones.

I have a medium/small design at the top of my hip, on my side. It's covered by absolutely any clothes whatsoever. Even a bikini bottom covers it. Very few people know I have it, and I like it that way. :) It's about 15 years old, and one of the colours has faded very slightly, but no sagging or wrinkles there so far. :> i'd like to extend it someday.

I know I am dragging up an old thread but I recently had the pleasure of working with a gentleman with a lot of tattoos. I can't post links but look up Mr avatar Edmonton.
I didn't know he was like this when I worked with him but after I looked at his site I just can't take him seriously.
I showed my nephew who is 8 and thinks tattoos are cool. My nephew asked me what was wrong with him.
I have showed a lot of people in edmonton his site, a lot of them had tattoos of their own.
So what do you people think of him?
And before anyone thinks I am airing his private life the website is created by him, he has been in newspapers and drives around in a truck covered in avatar stuff and his website.

This guy's problem isn't tattoos, it's that he is obsessed with Avatar.

An ex of mine, who was a psychoanalyst, was of the opinion that any tattoos on a woman were a 'red flag' - indicating emotional problems. Ironically she had lots of emotional problems and no tattoos.

Tattoos, no tattoos, doesn't bother me; it depends on the tattoo. I've just seen a photo of Ed Sheeran's new lion chest tattoo and that would be a definite nope. I couldn't have that thing looking at me during amorous times.

I have the obligatory 90's Asian characters and I'm trying to think of something to cover them over, bit bored of them now, would like something more artistic.

My personal preference goes like: a guy with a lot of good tattoos > a guy with few/no tattoos > a guy with a lot of bad tattoos. But I just mean an aesthetic preference, tattoos are so widespread now to be making judgements on people's personalities over them

I just googled that... Oh dear :D Although Nicole Scherzinger doesn't seem to mind so I doubt he would care what I think!

One persons bad tattoo is another persons work of art.

I love tattoos on a woman. The bigger the better or even the more visible the better. My wife is planning a half or full sleeve at the minute and that in my opinion is going to be super hot!!!

I'm thinking along the lines of badly done/badly cared for tattoos, or ones that you've seen a million times. Someone can think a faded climbing jaguar or barbed wire round the bicep is a work of art all they want, they'd be wrong

Had to laugh at that one.
Barbed wire round the bicep--all the rage in the 90s

    Too true though.

Lets not get started on lower back tattoos while we`re bitching.

Sure I've a tattoo on my inner upper arm because I saw Lady Gaga had one and thought it looked SO COOL, I really shouldn't be throwing any stones :o (it's at least a tattoo I worked with the artist to design though, not just a copy job)

On another forum somebody with art background actually analysed tattoos, how they stick to proportions and other basic stuff. Very few times he actually found a quality tattoo and majority were a mess when you start paying attention to proportions.

Everyone can get a bad tattoo--but at least if its that bad you can get it covered up.
Don't post it online for the world to see.

Very hard to get the proportions 100% correct when your canvas isn't 100% flat like an easel.
Tattoos are designed to curve with the bodys natural curves and muscle line in order to give an impression that the proportions are accurate.

That lad sounds like a bit of a tool to be honest.

He is just not some charlatan. If the eyes on the tattooed face look into different directions it isn't because the canvas is not flat.

That's just a bad tattoo artist. No one without experience in doing portraits should even pick up a tattoo machine.

The point Im trying to make is that when considering proportions the bodys natural curves need to be accounted for.
In the case of eyes in a portrait that's the first thing one looks at when seeing a portrait tattoo.

Ive seen more mediocre tattoos than I have good ones. Its not the ink thats the thing that makes you categorise the person, its the quality and subject matter in the picture. Same as how someone dresses automatically slots them into a particular demographic - rightly or wrongly.

I don't dig tattoos, so a guy who had a lot of tattoos - that would be a lot for me to overcome just on a pure attractiveness level. That said, I truly don't judge people who choose to be tattooed. It's their body, their choice, their right to express themselves. I wouldn't ever discourage someone from getting a tattoo. I've had plenty of friends plan their tattoos for months keeping me informed all along the way and my advice was always the same - if you want, go for it. People with tattoos aren't stupid or immoral or scary - they're just people who have a different aesthetic than I do.

I like the idea of tattoos and appreciate the art work in a tattoo that is well done, unique or unusual. The reality is though that a lot of them are just crap, boring and soulless, at least to me; I'm sure they mean a bit more to their canvas :)

Only one ex-boyfriend had tattoos, 3 of them. One was a winged dragon across his shoulder blades (that image above made me laugh :D) and I loved that one on him. The other two were dreadful and even he was already regretting them back then in his 20s.

I hate tattoos, they're an instant turn-off for me. I've never seen one that I thought was in any way nice or appealing.
