Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Half way through painting my apartment and i'm demented.

Is painting the most soul destroying thing ever?

Me too. It's the only time you get to write "bollocks" on a wall in three foot high letters and get away with it by painting over it

I'd rather paint than wallpaper my house.

OP, invest in a proper set of dust sheets, a compressor and a paintgun. As long as you like your walls and cieling the same colour, you're golden.

Oh no there are way more boring things to do with your time.

At least you are accomplishing something.

Hope it turned out nice. :)

Just don't watch it dry....that would be sad.

OP could get the masking tape out and do edges by hand.

I got so frustrated the last time I painted that I cried and vowed to pay someone to do it next time! My boyfriend is a great painter though, so I make the tea and stay out of his way.

Going around everything in the bathroom is a pain,as are skirts and architrave, ceilings are the worst.Otherwise quite enjoyable.

    Top Tip:

Unable to afford pesky expensive paint? Simply masturbate onto your walls to get that "semen white" effect without the expense.

The hardest part is painting around the pictures and curtains!

White spirits, how did I forget that. Lovely stuff. I think there's a bottle of that under my sink. Not that I'm off to sniff it or anything.

Only if you have to pay someone else a small fortune to do it for you.

I'm the same. I like painting too but there's a lot of preparation to do like covering the skirting boards with masking tape.

The smell of varnish for wood is nice too.

I got the sitting room lacquered a few weeks ago, I was high as a kite for hours afterwards

I used to tolerate having to do painting, then I hired a lad who was an actual painter. Masking tape? Nope. Loads of brushes? Nope, just the one. Dust cloths? Nope, he never spilt a drop. Straight edges? Yep, every time. Painting around sockets? Yep, in about two seconds and not a dab on the socket itself. Ruined me for painting, pretendey painters and crap painting.

I friggin HATE painting - spent the past month redoing the paintjob through the entire house, inside and out, garden, stables, barn, fencing, etc.

    Fed up of it! >_<

I'd like to invite all the painting fans to my house for a painting party. I'll make the tea and sandwiches, and supervise.

I'm utterly crap at it. As for wallpaper - not a hope, it is a form of wicked magic with paste. It all ends up stuck to me/the floor/wrinkled..

I fail at every facet of DIY.

I just accept defeat and pay other men to do it and remove myself from the house when they're there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,354 ✭✭✭nocoverart

Painter/Decorator here! If you think painting your house is boring you should try it as a trade. Ironically a brush or roller are tools you get to hold the least (on a building site anyways) filling, sanding and cleaning up the mess of every other trades man is what takes up the majority of your time. I maintain It's the hardest trade on a site.

I love painting! I even like going around with the polyfilla and sandpaper and stuff.
I'd happily pay someone else to deal with the masking and high up bits though :)
