cleaning laminate

my friend had a small piece of carpet made into a mat to protect laminate from wheels of computer chair. Now under the mat it is all a white dust and mat has to e dumped. And the laminate is hard to clean. Keeps 'repeating' back after damp cloth wipe dries off. Not sure is is sealed or not. What is good to clean laminate…
