Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Really looking forward to seeing what this Columbia team is capable of. No Falcao but quality players in James Rodriguez, Fredy Guarin, and Jackson Martinez. The young lad at Porto, Quintero, is also supposed to be a special talent but probably won't start....

    Guarin is suspended.

    Guarin is suspended.

    Didn't see that.
Columbia are my "dark horses" for the tournament.

Greece 9 behind the ball and a 2 goal game at best.

Looking forward to this, hopefully the cameramen get their act together

Anybody know who would take penalties for Colombia?

From unknown/dark horses, to being well known and overrated.. right back to being dark horses again all as a result of Falcao's season ending injury.
I think Columbia will do fine myself.

He earned himself a big money to Monaco last summer, but the next week or two will be the making of James Rodriguez. Well, the platform is there for him to do so anyway. That reminds me, I need to put a little something on him as POTT!

Fiorentina's Cuadrado is another one to look at for. One of the most exciting players in Europe, in my opinion over the past season. He's been heavily linked with Barca over the past month.

And despite Falcao not featuring, Columbia can still boast to having recent Europa League winner and Sevilla main man, Bacca up front, along with Martinez from Porto and Gutierrez to call upon, all of whom have decent records for club and country. It'll probably be Gutierrez starting though.

Greece do have a few decent players to call upon themselves in Mitroglou, Manolas and Sokratis , but Columbia should win, and win by a couple of goals I reckon. Greece will do their usual thing of trying to keep it tight and score from a set piece.

James Rodriquez took the last few penalties for them. Was Falcao before that. Might be a decent bet at 7/1 for first goalscorer...

Not really looking forward to this Greece are the most boring team on the planet.

It's like 1990 all over again, Valderrama Rincon, Higuita, Asprilla. Hell of a team then as well, never realised their potential.

Backing a 0-0 draw worth a few bob maybe? Colombia don't have Falcao and Greece are guaranteed to park the bus and play physical.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,311 ✭✭✭✭weldoninhio

I don't think Greece will park the bus. I watched them against Nigeria the other night and they looked a decent attacking team, albeit without a striker to convert their chances. Hopefully Mitroglou will be fit.

Maybe I am a bit behind the times but I can't recall a really impressive Colombia since the side that thrashed Argentina 5-0 in a World Cup qualifier back in 93. That would have been the side that later imploded in the finals the next year in the USA (Escobar RIP). Pity Falcao is missing this time, but - by the sounds of it - some of their other players aren't bad ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

    1 D. Ospina
    2 C. Zapata
    3 M. Yepes
    6 C. Sánchez
    7 P. Armero
    8 A. Aguilar
    9 Gutiérrez
    10 Rodríguez
    11 Cuadrado
    14 S. Ibarbo
    18 J. Zúñiga

Colombian lineup. For someone who would know Colombia better, Will Rodriguez play up front with Gutierrez?

    James Rodriguez <3

    No Martinez ??

Fully up for Greece here. They always play way above the sum of their parts. Hoping they pull off an upset.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭fyfe79

Watching Greece must be similar to what non-Irish fans thought when watching us back in the Charlton days - basically "not these hoofers again!" We were too caught up in it at the time but the neutrals must've hated us.

(Btw, I'm another lurker who has taken advantage of the WC-relaxed rules around here! Hi there)

Such passion in the anthem. The stadium looks unreal too, a field of yellow in the stands.

Away game for Greece. No better team for the job. :)

Should be fun if Christodoulopoulos and Papastathopoulos come on.

    Poor commentators.

Cuadrado hugely impressive down the right, almost as impressive as that celebration.

    Great. :)

Why do teams like Greece get support while teams like Crystal Palace etc get stick?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,668 ✭✭✭String

    wheres the goal-line technology?!

I think they were just showing it all the time early on to let people know it exists for this world cup. Pointless showing it on obvious goal

Cuadrado hugely impressive down the right, almost as impressive as that celebration.

He has been fantastic for Fiorentina for the last two seasons.

Can see him moving to a bigger club after the WC.

    Great. :)

Why do teams like Greece get support while teams like Crystal Palace etc get stick?

Because more people live in Greece than in the whole of Crystal Palace.
