Are you an extrovert/introvert/confused?

So I was thinking about this recently and sometimes I think I have a split personality.

Most people would describe me as an extrovert, talk to all the peoples, yay but I like to do a lot of things by myself and I hate clingy people.

I get lonely and like to be active and meeting new people but I will generally join groups/activities alone so I can make all the friends. One thing that gets on my tits is when someone latches on to me. I can't take clingy people at all, I would much rather be a social butterfly. I do have a small group of very close friends but they are all very independent and have other groups of friends which suits us all fine.

While I am very friendly and outgoing most of the time, sometimes I'll be like, no, not going anywhere today and I'm not answering the phone. I'll just want to sit and watch boxsets all day, everybody feck off. :P I also like driving, running and going to the cinema by myself....:-/

So boardsies, how many of you are extroverts/introverts/confused?

Simple criteria - extroverts re-energize by being around people, introverts re-energize by being on their own

I am introverted. When meeting people at first I'm reserved, some extroverts are just headwreckers and so obsessed with their image, other extoroverts are very warming and welcoming, I like the latter kind.

Introvert, but I'm not a big fan of labeling myself.

    Definite introvert here.

You could be a mix of the two OP. It's mostly based on where you get your energy from, if you reenergise by being alone you're more likely introvert, if you reenergise by being around other people, youre more likely extrovert.

You can have elements of both. You could be introvert and have some traits of extroversion. Some people as well are profound introverts, but pretend to be extroverts to gain in society. I used pretend to be extroverted in college to a degree. If i went to a party or something social wherein it would be demanded that you blend in and socialize, i would just pretend as in act the part. Gets a bit tiresome though, so i wouldnt recommend you live your whole life pretending.

A mix. I think I've got more introverted over the past 5 years since I started teaching and also with age, I suppose. I have to be outgoing, chatty and "dynamic" (they love that word here) as I teach adults English in a country where extrovertedness is valued. I do it from morning to 9-9.30pm Monday to Friday and it takes a lot out of me. I've noticed I want to spend a lot more time alone as a result to collect my thoughts and I crave conversations with a bit more substance as conversations in class tend to be fairly repetitive as students often have have limited English.

I've always had a introverted side though and have always enjoyed time alone and can stand long periods of it but I love parties, chats with strangers anywhere and generally meeting new people. Travelling alone for a year was heaven because I had the opportunity to call the shots on what I did but also socailise me arse off. I was very happy that year.

I don't pretend at all, I genuinely love meeting new people and doing new things but at the same time I am very independent and value my alone time.

I would go half mad if I didn't socialise with other people but I'd also go mad if I didn't spend some time alone. Hence my confusion.

The only thing I can't stand is people clinging out of me. I hate it, I like doing my own thang but my own thang will generally involve meeting other people, ya get me?

Unless it's shopping/cinema/running, that sh*t has to be done alone. :pac:

So I feel re-energised around people but also by spending time on my own, it just depends on my mood. In any given week, I will have to spend a certain amount of time with people and a certain amount of time on my own. Ya dig?

That's EXACTLY what I'm like!!! I do things on my own but end up meeting loads of new people and I would literally talk to a fecking wall if it talked back!! I like have my own agenda and doing my own thing but I bump into people along the way!!

I have to interact with people all day, and I'm fine with that. I also like nights out, have no problems with groups of people, or chatting to random strangers - actually love those chats with complete strangers, it really brightens my day.

There does come a point though where I've just had enough of other people. After a long day dealing with people, I really look forward to my quiet alone time, although like most things, too much of it probably isn't that good for me.

Thats a serious psychiatric illness called: "being normal."

Everyone needs some alone time. After a long week of work, you relax during the weekend. Or after a few days partying, you need an escape. Again this is normal, the mind needs a break. It needs contrast.

If you were going six months without meeting people that would be serious introversion. You seem pretty normal with regards your meeting schedule.

You are like Larry David. he only likes chatting to people he doesnt know.

Again this is normal. The mind needs contrast. Love and work. and too much of either can be stressful.

Probably becoming more introverted, as I love living alone whereas there was a time when the mere idea of it was just not fathomable. Used to love living in big house-shares.
Staying in of a weekend was unfathomable also.
Now, I'd go for a pint alone, or a coffee alone, and stay in on a Friday/Saturday night.

I still like socialising too though, just doesn't need to be as frequent as when I was younger.

I usually think the idea of being around people is good until I'm actually around new people, but I also hate being on my own.

Actually, I particularly love my alone time in the mornings. I get up quite early and love that peace in the mornings before I start my day.

New people are the bestest!! I got chatting to a guy working in Tesco when I was looking for a head torch there recently!! We had a full conversation about how cool his beard was, it was more one sided, a me talking at him sort of jobbie. I got him to laugh. :) But I think he thought I was some fcuking nutjob!!

This would be normal. An extrovert would go through periods of seclusion and an introvert would go through periods of socializing.

Introversion/extroversion is as much about personality as it is about how you spend your time.

Are you the life of the party or do you sit back and let others steer the ship.
Do you go out once every week or once a month.

I think it's bit of a misconception that introverts are shy and extroverts are confident and talkative.

I think the best definition is that introverts get energised by spending time alone and social situations drain them of energy, and vice versa.
    .
That's not to say that you can't have a super confident and outgoing introvert, when they want to be. Plenty of comedians and public speakers are in fact introverts. However they need to "recharge their batteries" by being alone by themselves. Likewise you could have an extrovert who loves spending time with people but may not necessarily be the centre of attention.

Another thing I've found is that introverts generally prefer deep meaningful conversations as opposed to just small talk, and also that they're great listeners.

Personally, I don't believe ambiverts exist. I think the concept of an ambivert stems from a misunderstanding of the definitions of introverts & extroverts. You're either energised or drained by being in social situations. However you can have different personality traits commonly associated with introversion/extroversion which makes you seem more "balanced" eg. confident introvert/shy extrovert.

I'm an extrovert, but I'm also incredibly socially awkward and shy around new people. If I'm left alone for more than a few hours I feel myself starting to unravel a bit!

Wow 70% of the poll consider themselves introverted. I suppose the extroverts are out doing things.
