Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Henry: Pirlo is that good he meant to hit that crossbar

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭edgecutter

Why? When did Henry do that celebration at the end of the match?

Remember the time he handled the ball against Ireland and went celebrating shaking his hand at the French crowd. Tosser of the highest order.

So who was worse for england, gerrard or rooney?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,245 ✭✭✭✭briany

There's every chance that Italy could make a clean sweep of this group and leave the other three fighting for the scraps. In that case, four points could do England.

    "He's the main man"
"He's going for the goalscoring record"
    "Check out his workrate bruv"

    'He played better than Sturridge'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,060 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

HOw can Danny Murphy say that its understandble that Sturridge and Sterling tired, as 'they are young'.

Surely young players shouldn't tire as much as the likes of Pirlo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,645 ✭✭✭✭Witcher

If they ever clone footballers Pirlo should be first in line, future generations deserve to see him play:pac:

This thread has already been littered with club biased rubbish posts already, why suffer us with more by asking that ? :P

I can honestly see rooney being dropped for next game, gerrard however will never be dropped

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭LightningBlue

Murphy would be a much better co-commentator/analyst than Phil Neville. He at least has an original opinion.

It's hilarious and very boring at this stage that some posters can't cope with Henry appearing on tv without resorting to insults. Get over it ffs.

The criticism of Gerrard is OTT. His job is to sit deep, he doesn't have the same role that he used to because the legs aren't there. He didn't play great but you couldn't take him off for anyone other than maybe Lampard or else you would have completely killed the midfield balance. Wilshere or Lallana for Gerrard would have suicide for example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,060 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

They don't like naming people do they?

"When Baines had no cover in front of him",

just say it "Rooney didn't bother himself covering in the 1st half".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,982 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The man they should be slating is Joe Hart. He was out of position quite a few times including for the first goal. No reason for him to be so far off his line for that one. If he was properly positioned he would have saved it. The time Jagielka cleared it off the line he made an insane decision to come out and try and take on Balotelli and it almost cost them.

Rooney deserves criticism for his miss and overall performance but so do many others. Sturridge scored from a Rooney cross but neither did well tonight.

Over riding feeling is one of regret. That I missed Kathleen Turner in Body Heat.

Anyway, Rooney was never really played in position so tough being too hard on him, Gerrard was very quiet, disappointing after how well he played for Liverpool last season, he may come good next game, hopefully. Most of the young lads played well. Henderson was good I thought, result was disappointing but unsurprising.

Ah well, onward and upward. Time to try and stay awake for next game.

@wallacemick: “@PCarrESPN: Italy completed 92.2% of passes vs England. Highest pass pct by any team in a #WorldCup game since 1966.” Forza Italia...

He was lucky with the Pirlo free, completely misjudged it. You'd think he'd have learned not to assume anything with Pirlo especially after he made a show of him with that penalty a few years ago:pac:

Tipping Balotelli to light this game up and Verratti to outshine Pirlo

Delighted to see the main man get the winner :P

Can still see England getting through

    inspiring interview with Hodgson there.

"if we were better at scoring goals, we could have scored more goals"

Typical RTE putting the blame on Gerrard, typical BBC blaming Rooney.

No chance that they can just say they lost a decent game whilst having a go to a tough team and just say so. Daft that players become brilliant and become the answer by sitting on the bench.

Any gifs of the dummy by pirlo, the one the shows his facial expression?

Neither will happen, and neither should happen, if you were picking an England team.

never ever write the italians off in tournament football, always a crisis pre tournament but they always seem to do well in major finals.

Except the last World Cup, where they finished last in their group and drew with New Zealand.

The free was a bit like the penalty..a lot more subtlety to it than Hart imagined.

He will still be playing, Pirlo doesn't age, Pirlo doesn't pass through time, time passes through him.

Dunphy, get off the stage your time is up. John Terry, really???

Get rid of the lot of them RTE and put on the Second Captains lads who actually know something about football post 1970.

    Scrap the cap!

If he hadn't dropped into mark the player in the centre of the box and he'd got the ball and scored people would be moaning about that too.

It was an excellent cross to take Cahill out of the equation without it sailing over Balotelli's head.

The fact that Pirlo's game does not require speed whatsoever leads me to believe we will see the maestro for a while yet.

I still find it absolutely baffling that Milan let Pirlo leave on a free.

I'm with Giles on this one, Gerrard wasn't getting near the ball and it would have been pretty soft

The lads on rte agree its a pen against gerrard(and it was) boys on bbc say no, isnt football gas:D8
