Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Important matches??? Ill give you the hattrick against Saudi in 2002.
But he has 3 goals against Argentina, one against england. Even one against Ireland in world cups.

He is the top German goalscorer of all time.
    Overrated??? Get a grip!

i take it you have never heard of gerd müller then…? decisive goals in european and world cup finals and all…when it really mattered…yet miro klose would be the first to admit that himself…and he has...

Muller was a superior player, but the fact is Klose has more goals. And important ones at world cups and euros. So therefore youre wrong.

do we have a klose fanboy here? you clearly haven’t understood the basics, comparing goals in an 8:0 wc opener etc. to decisive goals in a wc final win and a euro final win and many more…hilarious…you know, there’s more to it than the sheer number of goals…gerd müller scored 68 goals for germany in 62 internationals (about 1.1 per match)…compare to klose’s average…müller won the world cup and the european championship with germany and was a decisive player in both…and where were klose’s goals in the 2002 final? unless klose leads germany to the title this time, he isn’t even in a league with gerd müller…having said that, i hope klose scores massively and germany wins the wc…but never mind…

yet none or almost none in the really important matches...totally overrated imo...

Doesnt matter. Klose is a 'competant' striker. Which another poster said Germany hadnt got. 14 World cup goals prove that, along with his club record over the years.
Comparing him to Muller is daft and nothing to do with the context of what we were talking about.

Overall I think your post reads a wee bit too much like dissing Klose.
Other posters have merely pointed out Klose's goal scoring record, which is very respectable by ratio (>0.52), and the best in total numbers, which only very few players in this day and age can match.

That doesn't make them fan boys.

Why does it matter whether he scores decisive goals or earlier goals in the game? There are 11 players on the pitch and most people couldn't care less who of them scores the decisive one.

The fact that Klose hasn't reached Mueller's ratio doesn't make Klose a considerably worse player. There are other qualities to Klose's play that Mueller never exhibited, like the high work rate off the ball, backtracking, and assist rate. The man doesn't even take penalties.

and where were klose’s goals in the 2002 final?

The limited German team of 2002 did not create a single chance during that game, except for Neuville's free kick from 40 yards that hit the post.
A bit harsh to single out Klose for not scoring, isn't it?

Even if Germany should win it this time around, Klose will not be in a position to lead the team to the title. He isn't even a starting player, and the current German system isn't primarily designed to play with an upfront striker Klose style.

erm, who else would you compare him to when some folks call him the “greatest german striker ever” and things like that? who? miro klose is certainly a very competent striker but not “world class” in any way...yet as i said, i hope he scores like never before in this world cup...

No one here has claimed that. I think you're tilting at windmills here. Or at the very least strawmen.

In modern day german international football there is no better striker than Miroslav Klose. Why don't you compare him to his cotemporaries?
If folks want to call him the "greatest german striker ever" then that is another argument entirely and not what we're talking about here.
As I said before, some other poster said Germany didnt have a competent striker. Miroslav Klose is so much more than competent.

Klose is past it now. 36 years old - could be a lethal impact sub if utilised correctly but expecting him to hit the heights of the last decade is a bit much.

Anyone in here knocking Klose now no? What? Didn't think so. Germanys best striker for the last 15 years. Joint top world cup scorer. Has scored in 4 consecutive world cups. If only he were competent! :-)

yes, good job by klose against ghana…now let’s see if he keeps scoring…and yes, he may well be the best german striker of the past 15 years, just not the best of all time…
