Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

All players i've seen play, so anyone before around 1990 is discounted. Obviously guys like Souness, Hunter, Giles etc would make my team if I was 20 years older :pac:

    Kahn
    Pearce
    Puyol
    Montero
    Vidic
    Roy Keane
    Effenberg
    David Batty
    Duncan Ferguson
    Shearer
    Salvador Cabañas(wiki this guy, seriously!)

Shoot some names of your own, tons more I could have put in.

Cabanas was about to sign for Sunderland for £5m and got shot in the head a few days before he was due to come over to sign. We're such a curse of a club.

I think people on this thread are confusing hard with dirty. Some of the players mentioned were just scummers who liked to foul. Thats not hard IMO, just sly and disgusting.

True though there is an overlap between hatchet men and tough guys - if you're the former, it helps to be the latter. Thinking of the difference between Roy Keane, say, and Robbie Savage.

Dennis wise was tough as nails for Chelsea - loathe as many will be to admit it, John Terry has played through a phenomenal amount of pain and injury. Diego Someone is worthy of a mention too, France 98 antics notwithstanding. Vidic - and most of the former yugoslavia players in the mid to late 90s - were truly terrifying individuals.

Johnny Giles would have to get a spot on the team, Roy Chopper Harris by virtue of his name.
I don't think anybody who has been playing in the last 10-15 years deserves to be in the team judging by how soft players have become these days

Keane would be tough though. I don't think it's a silly suggestion. It's all subjective but Keane would be up there from the players I've seen.

Original? I'd imagine Norman Hunter, Tommy Smith, Nobby Stiles, Ron Harris, Peter Storey, Johnny Giles or Dave Mackay, among others, might dispute that.

Speaking of guys who did a job on Maradona early in his career you'd have to include Juve and Italy idol Claudio Gentile. A serious hard man with the most ironic surname ever, he man marked Diego in the 82 World Cup. Or to be more specific, he kicked the sh*t out of him!

Remember him at the end of his career and yes you are correct.

Nobody mentioned Kevin Morgan yet. A real tough man, hard as nails but in no way dirty.
Also, Ronnie Whelan could put his boot in when needed, but did it nice and quietly.

Didn't Kevin play an All-Ireland final with a hamstring injury?
