Wasn't the Stag very well engineered but just poorly put together? Think I saw that in a program a few years ago.

The crazy thing about the Stag was that Triumph went and enginered their own V8 at a time when sister company Rover had a world leading, well developed V8. Mental.
It turned out to be problematic in service, but I know one guy who daily-ed one for a few years with a rebuilt V8 and an Emerald ignition setup which never gave a problem. Absolutely gorgeous car to drive.

    This one by any chance?

The complete series is (well, not checked recently) available on the 4OD app (here in Ireland)

The really crazy thing was that Triumph could surely have gone down the route of the Daimler 250 V8, which although half a litre smaller was only 5hp less than the Stag engine, and was reliable.
The guy that designed that 250 V8, a man called Turner, even worked for Triumph motorcycles.

It seems it was already out of production by the time the Stag came along, whereas the Rover unit was still in high volume production ( soon to be much greater with the Range Rover)

Actually, maybe Triumph thought there would be spply problems with the Rover engine? Still seems an insane reason to go out and design a new motor!

The exhausts on all those 6 series were awful. They look like they were an afterthought and their central position looks tacky.

And there not even central, they're slightly off.

Think I seen that today in Rathdrum, reminds me of my youth when I used to see them working for a living.
