Alvis TD21 1961. Rebodied to look like an Alvis Speed 20. Odd looking thing but drives fantastic. 3 Litre straight 6

Was staying with a friend of mine in Calabria last week. Seven hour drive down from Rome to Ballygobackwards a few miles south of Cosenza. As I'm pulling up to the house, "pull into the garage" says he, and what greets me but this:

You could have knocked me over with a breath. Bought new by my friend's father in Switzerland in 1970, driven back to Italy in 1989 and parked in the garage where it has sat since. Photos are poor, but beneath the dust it looks to have survived remarkably well. I suppose they haven't the same problems with rust as we do

    51270883674_dbaf865cea_c.jpg

Lots of other interesting stuff around the place that I won't flood the thread with, but here's a few examples:

    51269409452_e50ffa6086_c.jpg

    51270337393_8e096ffa40_c.jpg

This was a daily driver, and that might be a bucket of house paint for the wing :pac:

    51270337943_e093a6d32a_c.jpg

This little SJ belonged to a cousin of my friend. Loads of them about

    51270338533_e8faa38a6d_c.jpg

    Predictably loads of these too

    51270342153_b20efb0b07_c.jpg

    51270892714_eab9619edc_c.jpg

And lastly this, a turbo diesel 164 - absolutely mint - carefully piloted (and co-piloted) by a classy looking elderly couple who parked up and went into mass. Dealer sticker in the back window from a local garage still selling Alfa Romeo today

I imagine that 164 was bought for, and probably only used for that weekly trip to mass and maybe lunch somewhere afterwards. He probably has a 127 or Uno or maybe even an Autobianchi a112 as his daily.

It might be slightly cheating since this belongs to a work colleague, but it's rarely out and too nice not to share :p

I posted the older MB recently (in a car park) but it was lovely to see, hear and smell all that unburnt fuel as it leisurely and gracefully wafted by in the wild...

If you looked quickly you would swear there was a mid sized cross over beside it, not a fiesta.

You can. It costs quite a bit - I think €1,000 but not sure.

You cannot request a number ahead of issue, so if you want [213 C 213] you have to pre-book it and wait for [213 C 212] is issued. You cannot change a registration number except when it is 30 years old and then to a ZV series.

The Reg [ZV 8] was issued to a Triumph TR8, which has a V8 engine, having paid the fee I believe.

Nothing stopping you looking for [ZV 100] to go on an Audi 100 that is over 30 years old, and you are prepared to pay the fee.

I spotted this outside a garage that specialises in classics near where I live. There`s a couple more in the background.

That is a 1972/1973 Wolsey 1100/1300. It was a larger size Mini. Wolsey was an up-market marque of BMC. The 1100/1300 (a larger version of the Mini) was a very popular car in its day, with Hydrolastic suspension (water based) that linked the front wheels to the rear wheels on each side. This gave the car superb immunity to side winds, and quite good suspension overall. For such a small car, it gave four/five adults good accommodation with good leg room in the back - no drive shaft tunnel because it was FWD.

The Mini had rubber suspension initially (1959), but got the same as 1100 later.

You can no longer reserve a number for a car that isn’t brand new.

Two nice cars, I suppose the ZV is worth more than the 04.

Any idea what is that behind the 04?

I would think so, the TEs/TDs are at least as much as the coupes. Depending on condition of course.

The W123 is way classier looking than the modern one

No, he's just lucky the way the Wicklow registration numbers are. I registered my old Saab last summer and got the same w110
