Time was when it wouldn't have made it thru the Darndale roundabout in one piece - many's the car just went left at 60mph and was burnt out

Nice Escort on the Malahide road a while ago.

Horrible yoke, will never be a classic.

I lived in London in the late 80's early 90's, they were everywhere, Essex man and girl couldn't get enough of them.

I pass a few of those old Escorts on the way to college everyday over here in Austria and while they mighn't be a classic, they are definately able to be classed as 'everyday stuff you dont see anymore' material

Interesting .... and Escort better than a Golf!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,730 ✭✭✭Type 17

Of course the Escort was more advanced than the Mk1 Golf cabrio - the Escort is based on a 1980 design (Mk3 Escort), whereas the Cabrio is based on the 1974 Mk1 Golf.

I know which I prefer, though (but each to his own).

Haha, depends on who you know. I have no hassle with a Midget, pair of ADO16s, Saab 96 etc

Luckily this made a beeline for the N32!

Original Irish ZX , Bay, Starlet - R5 looks the biz right down to the red plate even if it's ZV but it shows attention to detail ;)

And a few from the auction. Sorry about the poor photos, but my phone doesn't do low light well and it was hard to get decent photos with the crowds around.
My old '77 Midget here. I drove this daily for a while. Dropped a 1500 Dolomite engine and standard 4 speed box in, it screamed everywhere :P Lovely little car though, and I was delighted to see it looking so well. Sadly I didn't get a chance to chat with the owner about it. Never sold, I believe the owner was after €2200 which is quite reasonable as its a little dinger :)

This little honey got no bids at all and the starting bid was only €500. I tried to find the owner afterwards in the hope of striking a deal with him/her, but he was nowhere to be found for the rest of the day. Tried to get my Dad to throw in a bid on it too but he was having none of it :o A lovely little car, I'd really like to see it go to a good home.

I had hoped to bid on this. It's a nice 3dr example with low miles and good history. I expected it to make €600 or €700 at most, but ended up squandering what I brought on other things! :pac:

They are pretty nifty. This is one from Terenure in 2012.

They would be well capable, younger generation on the job now but I still see Murt, of the older generation about.. Showing the chaps that it's not all about plugging into a diagnostic ..:)
Haven't seen that Mustang about either, wonder is it a sister of the red one at the side of a house on Windgates, where the white Caddilac and the trikes live..

That Mustang was still in the shop when I dropped in last week, electrical issues and running rough Clive told me when I asked about it. I don't think it belongs to the chap you mentioned, though he does have a similar model in red in the drive (amongst others)

spotted this original Irish reg'd BJ40 ( I think that's the model) Land Cruiser on the M11 southbound earlier today

Did you spot the Morris Marina heading north around the same time?

Westmeath reg right? I used to have 211 ALI, 83 Fiesta MK1 in beige, I think its still about too, along with 311 BLI which is still living in Westmeath with owner #1.

Anyway - a few recent spots. Probably more youngtimers than classics, but worthy of a post. The Landcruiser is apparently on owner #1 also. Looked pretty tidy. The E30 was lovely too. Not too many unmolested 6 cyl models going around.

"Insert image" - the little yellow box thingy at the top of the reply box, pop the URL in there.

Failing that [IMG][/IMG] - put the URL between those.

Lovely spot by the way, very rare!

Nice to see one on an original Wexford plate. I don't think its an import the high ZR's would place it around 85-86 I think.

I've a red one like that in the same condition, reluctant to touch it. Gotta love the Landy's!
