I did see the Alpine in BB, thought it was another one ! The BGT was off Leinster road last I saw of it.

AFAIK that 'B' is a 1980/1 LE500. Last of the the line car.

Leinster road also contains a lovely old Fiesta and Alto.

Funny, I was looking up the LE500 to get a pic and found this - MX5 engined BGT LE50  http://www.autominded.com/577_le50-is-an-all-new-old-mgb/classic-cars

Anyway, that BGT off Leinster rd with no bumpers/faired headlights didn't look like an LE500, (I posted a pic when I saw it but can't find it now) and if it was an LE500 I don't think it should have been stripped down to what I saw :(

I'm pretty certain it was an LE. It's such a shame as they are lovely looking in original condition.

Pretty much the same as this

Beaut Syncro van, another one of my 'Lotto garage' residents - Leinster rd - home of Syncro,

Oddly enough, I was born on Leinster Road and have a Syncro - much rarer than this one though!

Surely a 2cv that doesn't look bad is some sort or oxymoron...

    Careful Now... :P
(I meant the condition was fairly good, rather than the aesthetics)

although I've never owned one, I have fond memories of my friends mother having one in the early 80s - very cool car with the deckchair type seats.
And if you think they're a veggies dream car, think again - there was a 24 heures du Mondello racing comp back in the 90s/00s (not sure if its still in existence)

linky from a quick google: http://oldsite.2cvracing.org.uk/mondello/index.htm

It's not that I view them as some sort of veggie's dream car, they remind me of a Christmas jumper, so naff people think they're cool, but in reality they're just naff.
If you want an 80's small car from France, you could do so much better, but who am I to judge.

I still laugh about the time back in about 1991 or 1992 when I saw a 2CV and an Escort XR3i having a race on the N7. The 2CV must have been travelling flat out but he was giving the Escort a run for his money :)

Could have been me with my GS1200 engined one

Another one of my 'Lotto-win garage' residents - had many of them, not very strong in a crash I'd say but to drive one is to love it ;)

    Dream 2CV - a twin-engined 2CV Sahara 4x4  https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/16133/lot/331/ €87k - who's laughing now

Lads, no amount of  will convince me otherwise, my auld fella had one parked outside the garage for two years when I was younger, hated the fecking thing, evidently so did the owner, because it was running and he never came back for it.

    Time to move on...

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,219 ✭✭✭✭Nekarsulm

Neighbour has one of those Skoda's parked in his farmyard. The last of the models with the rear engine. Been there a few years, the owner died while the car was in the neighbours garage for repair. Must photo it tomorrow. I think its a "sports" model :D

Nah, just drove mine like it did have a flat 4 up front. They DID have one in the James Bond movie  but with me it was flat out in every gear until I got to 'cruising speed'
