Well from all the shows that I've been to in Ireland over the last few years, I reckon that there is more skill, imagination and attention gone into a mere handful of those fabulous looking vehicles in Worthersee than the fields full of rusty ZV reg yokes you get here.

Look, we're never going to agree on this one so just leave it. You like that kind of thing, I don't, end of. I'd sooner look at a rusty Wolsey than something that looks like it drove off the set of the Fast n Furious.

Seems I started a wee bit of a mini flame war on here with yesterdays Worthersee pics. As a wise person recently said "Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate" and I think thats what really set the whole thing apart is that nobody here at Worthersee really gives a damn. Everycar here is just an expression of the owners style. Personally, I adore standard cars. I spent a large chunk of cash getting my old Corolla back to factory standard spec but at the same time you just have to apreciate the sheer attention to detail these boys have. Im not gonna lie, there are some right skanger mobiles around but if there was 10 thats about it. To me, the majority of the cars are taking ordinary vehicles and making them seriously cool.

Driving through Greystones yesterday I came up behind this Vauxhall.
I turned towards the harbour where I met the Granada (perhaps a Consul??) and came across a small gathering. They were raising funds for the Oncology Dept in St. Vincents Hospital. I'm not sure if it was the Garden County Vintage Club that had organised the meeting, or maybe another, but quite a few of the cars are locals.
I think the Alvis was mentioned here recently, its a beautiful car in the flesh.
I'm not too up on the 20s/30s/40s cars, so apologies to the purists if I've given them the wrong title.
and that squashed bug is still showing up on my crappy phone pics :o

    last couple.
The Borgward gets used regularly, I think its one of the most beautiful cars of its era. Gorgeous colour too, really suits it.

And to CianDon - fabulous photos from Worthersee - amazing gathering of metal. I agree completely with your sentiments - the level of attention to detail is staggering

Normally I hate the pimping of old rides, but like some of you I can't help but admire the time, effort and cash that has gone into those (mostly) ordinary cars.

The Audi is beautiful, alright. Though we can only imagine how much better it might look with some less crazy wheels on it.

You keep posting the pics chap! I wouldn't do anything like that to any of my cars but I love the attention to detail these kids have.

The thing about the modified classics for me is that the car itself is beautifully preserved for the future. That Merc could easily have been scrapped but it needs little more than some new suspension parts and new wheels and its a perfectly restored W115.

I've been to Worthersee a couple of times in the mid 90's when it was almost purely a VW meet, seems to be a lot bigger and a lot better. Lovely pics Cian.

Your Austin is Pat Carey's Wolseley from Newcastle and the Isabella was featured in Irish Vintage Scene a while back, nice car indeed.
A nice selection..you have my nomination to over Capri's position..

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭tc20

^ I know Pat ( I grew up in Newcastle) the last time I saw him on the road he had a Merc W115, I hadn't seen his latest acquisition. The owner of the Borgward, is also local.

I don't know about filling Capri's boots, he always posts up some good spots as a roving reporter  - maybe he's away, but he hasn't posted for a little while.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭Zoo4m8

Very good...don't know if Pat still has the Merc, certainly haven't seen it in a while. The Borgward man has a Stag as well, or did have..used to see it the odd time in the car park close to their shop in the town.
That Alvis is a car I've always fancied even as a young lad, it does seem to turn out with that club now and again but no idea who the lucky owner is.

I saw this on the A55 in Wales last week. Austin Healey 3000 on the back of a Netherlands reg. truck. It came off the Irish Ferries ship. I don't know anything about the car only it's left hand drive and had no number plate.

A tourist being recovered home or a rare Irish resident going away?

Im just going to put it out there that I've never seen anything as perfect as this Golf. Genuinely, If I could have got through to the bank I'd have bought this car on the spot. I spent 15 mins walking around it and couldnt find a single blemish. Say what you want about modded classics but whens the last time you've seen something soo perfect??

Lastly, it doesnt get any more early 80's Euro tuning style than a Kamei kitted, four light Golf. Its, emmmmm, shocking, to say the least but sorta growing. I posted a red similar styled MK2 Golf about a week ago and its up there with my favourite cars of the 3 weeks :-/
