Thing is a lot of popular cars were ****e in hindsight. And the worse headlights I ever had, worse than any classic I ever had, belonged to a 2006 Passat. They were proper dangerous.

I drove old (even back then) motorcycles in the 80s/90s. How I wasn't killed is a miracle. You'd see more sucking a cigarette.

A different story. But my Maxi, Marina, SD1 were all brilliant and owned back to back with the Passat. It was genuinely that bad. The SD1 was great mind, only bettered by my 75 and 159.

Even though they were the entry level at the time they are still such an awesome looking car imo. I'd love a retro Porsche.

Gotta love the old Land Cruisers. I'm in the process of doing a full nut and bolt restoration of my 1981 BJ40, Irish, one owner. Should be ready mid February, can't wait.

A couple of spots around Bray/Greystones over the holidays

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭tc20

    And also these two..

apologies for the very blurry pic of the Adenauer but I thought I should post it. I have seen one on the flesh, and sat in it but never saw one on the move.
this had what I can only guess is a vintage Dutch plate xx-11-20, though I can't recall the 'xx' was. The car was in stunning condition, and these beauties have real road presence

    I don't think that's an Ardenauer.

I really like the early ones. Later (in the 80s) they just became "fatter" and more muscular poster cars like. There is nothing more beautiful than a classic Porsche. Definitely on my list.

    2011 Youghal car show.

no huge wing, no wide wheel arches... just the gorgeous classic line of a 911/912. Less is sometimes more and this is a fine example.

They are great shots @diabhalta. I ran a gulf orange 69 911s for a number of years and although it was a lwb car, the arches were only slightly flared. I ran it with the 912 for a few years & decided to keep the 912 because like you - I prefer the narrow bodied swb cars - far rarer and beautiful clean lines..

I think your shaky car is a dreaded Beauford.

I'd prefer the Corsair myself especially if it has the pre crossflow 1500 GT engine not the dreaded V4

@W124man - you are correct - the spare on the wing gives it away. :o

^ this is more like what I saw, though it had a flat front grill, not an angled one as in the pic

@ jca - definitely not a Beaufort (and rightly called dreaded!) - I've seen a few of those as wedding cars, they are awful.
However, the one I saw definitely had the three pointed star, and I'm faily certain it had "300" in the correct period MB script on the trunk.
A quick google tells me that the predecessor to the Adenauer was the Type 770, the series 1 had the MB moniker W07 (1930-38) and series 2 (W150, 1938-43). Only 205 were produced, making this an extremely rare car, and not one that you would expect to be driven in an Irish winter, Pebble Beach would be more its natural habitat these days. Both series had a 7.7litre engine; so now I am confused, but definitely not a Beaufort.
The Dutch plate adds to the mix too...

Some of the old ones are tricky to identify but at least is wasn't a Beaufort!

I love when a wedding car company advertises them as classic! I don't mind some kit cars after all the caterham 7 was one but I cannot understand what kind of person buys/builds one of those.

No wonder there is only 8 cars attending when no one knows about it. It's not like pistonheads is a major forum and everyone is there.

Photo's mabye didn't do the event justice as there were nearly 30 cars there. Boys running it prefer to keep it low-key and pure. If you stumble upon it though Im sure you'll be welcomed like I was

I went to two of them long time ago (just because I had a quick look in Ireland section on Pistonheads - which is an extremely dead forum), but missed the rest of them. Little Island is a low-key location itself. Only a petrolhead or person really interested in cars would travel across the city to go there. So it's defiinitely not for regular people with their kids and who knows what else (dogs, monkeys, slaves...). Why not let people on boards.ie know? I am sure few other (more/less interesting) cars would turn up. Don't see a problem in that. Maybe next time they can just keep it for themselves and text each other just to make sure no one knows about it :)

And its not a 770 either. I have seen one in the flesh at Essen, they are a far more imposing car than that one and sit much higher, on huge wheels. I still say kit car !

*** Loads of pics I'm not quoting*****

First one, yep, nice but not my cup of tea

Second one, I'd say it's not a classic but a well used daily (with a resprayed back door)

Third one, get the f**k away with your classic! That's more suited for the Skanger thread on the Motors Forum!

that e34 is a daily used classic, yes. It's 20 plus years old and you don't see them every day.

and e36 will soon have that status as well (in my opinion). In Germany these are called Youngtimers (80s,90s.. e30 is a youngtimer too)

that e34 looks like its sitting strange at the back. maybe its just the pic

alloys and wheels do nothing for it either
