TC, a bit of local info for you! The owners of the Riley, MGa and Midget are all local residents , I'm a bit reluctant to use names but the owner of the Riley has a number of historic racing cars and is a regular hill climb competitor in them.
The MGA driver is president (I think!) of the MG club and I'm sure Liam Ruth won't mind being mentioned as the owner of the racing Midget as he is well known in historic racing circles as a builder and preparer of competion Midgets.

thanks Zoo4m8 - I know the son of the Riley driver, and know that his Dad has a number of nice little motors and is involved in hillclimbing; like yourself, I didn't want to name names ;)

I know Liam quite well and he is full of enthusiasm for historic racing and Midgets in particular.

He is indeed, I build my own cars for my particular branch of Motorsport and we both agree that 50% of the fun of competion is producing a car yourself and getting it competitive .. While I'm here, among other participants in historic racing in the area , and I know they won't mind a mention, are Stephen Doyle (Lola) and David Kelly (Crossle) two quick men.. We also have an ex British Rallycross champ and of course lots of classic car owners as shown by TC20 with his regular posts.
The pic of the Pantera on the Main Street a while back I find interesting, I'd love to know who owns it but I suspect it's not local and coincidentally one of two brothers who were DeTomaso importers back in the day also lives in the locality.
And as a ps two Panteras showed up at Bray cars and coffee recently.
Anyway , just a quick snapshot of the large amount of participants in all forms of car related activity in the area and apologies for hijacking..I'm done for the moment..:)

I've seen the red pantera on the road in the locality of the photos so I assume it's local, there's also a blue one living in Arklow, or there used to be I haven't seen it in a while.
Are these the guys who were based in bunclody who used to import de tomasos?

I think everyone who saw the photos can guess the owner of the Riley's name... seeing as it's written on the side of the car.

That's right...it's always interesting what comes and goes , breadvan(Mach 1) Mustang at a local body shop during the week, hard to miss, light blue convertible with a white hood, seem to recall it for sale on DD a while back so maybe it has pitched up here, have to keep an eye out..

There are a few more that you didn't mention! There is an autotest Hewson Trophy multi winner in the area, a former Dunlop Sexton Trophy winner, a long time MG Midget/FVW/Stryker racer and multiple Sporting Car Trials drivers. I used to live in the area as well and knew them all from my days behind the wheel at Mondello.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭Zoo4m8

Quite right on all counts! Eamon the autotest man who can win at everything he turns his hand to and is very generous with his time and expertise , and when asked will a certain mechanical problem be difficult invariably replies "nah, piece of cake"..
And I'm glad to see you refer to 'sporting car trials' not 'mudplugs' !

It has been sold abroad, but the owner has replaced it with something equally interesting.

I was watching the Circuit Deja Vu leaving Killarney this morning. Parc Ferme was interesting last night when I was wandering around. I knew a few people doing it, but heard no reports back. If I had the Escort sorted after the winter, I probably would have put in an entry.

Edit, the Delta is a road car, along with the "Andrews" Sierra Cosworth! There was a few Triumphs and Austin Healy's on their own run up the Gap this morning.

Ya the exact same place, up the top of Molls Gap just beyond Killarney. The Volvo fire was just down the road to the right of the Avoca shop (left of the pic)
