would be nice if they had the wing mirrors in the correct place on those escorts. If they cant get it right, they just look like fake nonsense

Why are those wheels so small on that blue Escort? Esp. the rear ones. I noticed that on Capris mk1 and mk2 as well. They are tucked in inside which means they are far from wheel arches making the car funny looking. Must have zero traction in corners making the car useless.

The wheels are so small because they are 12 x 4.5 that were fitted to the 1.1 and 1.3 low compression basic mk1's. They were not fire breathing monsters, but boy did they flag when they were getting near the limit and were really controllable on the limit. Huge super sticky tyres can ruin the handling while enhancing the grip.

I didn't bother going on that run as I was enjoying the sun in the midlands, and the fact that the Escort at home has not turned a wheel in a while and needs recommissioning after the winter.

(Before you all start shouting, I did manage to get the filters and lubricants needed. I just need to get the fluids/filters changed when I get off my ar$e)

Edit - The Mk1 Escort was designed for 12" wheels. Ford did have a problem when creating the Twin Cam in getting the Lotus Cortina running gear into the Escort Bodyshell, especially the front wheels. Hence the arches fitted to the Twin Cam, RS2000 & Mexico for clearance

All the cool kids run skinny rubber for maximum enjoyment. It just was the way it was for all poverty spec small engined cars before the latest craze for massive wheels took hold. I have 135/70/13 on my '95 Peugeot, and thats preety fun when pushed, so could imagine what it was like back in the day with those Escorts

Ah would you look at the Corsa in the back! It looks like it's a Max Power wannabe!

While she might not look the nicest, a nice wee 2L Red Top under that bra-clad bonnet more than makes up for the styling ;-) Definately a case of taking a second look

Lancia is a series 1 Fulvia berlinia 2c, very rare little car. I seen it a month ago or so with the engine and gearbox on the floor, nice to see her back on the road.

she sounded very peppy as it passed me before turning into the car park (off Shelbourne Road)

    Haha, that looks hilarious :D

I'm not saying the wheels should be massive, but these wheels just don't fit (no matter what was the trend before...). It just looks ridiculous, the whole car looks huge and the wheels are out of proportion.

On this die cast model they got it right... this is how the 1:1 car should look like.

Seen this lovely example of a low millage sierra sapphire (16k miles). It's in the north but if it is as genuine as the seller claims, it would be a good buy indeed.

Scale models deliberately exaggerate/reduce certain features to make the model look 'right'

The wheels shown on the die cast model look like the wheels that were standard on the 1300 Super/XL models and upwards.
The base 1100/1300 models had the narrower rims as seen on that fantastic example in the pics. The 1300 Super/XL/GT etc also had square headlights.

^ that Mk1 Escort is simply fantastic - @Cian Don, did you enhance the colour in the photos? The blue colour is amazing, looks like a top notch paint job.
Reminds me of the Mk1 my Dad had on the late 70s/early 80s. It was bottle green, 1100cc, reg no 4325 ZC (1975 I think). I remember we were driving when the clock turned over to 100,000 miles - we all cheered and he tooted the horn in celebration :)

The car is a 3dr auto
He also has a mk1 Capri. All in pretty crappy condition

    French Cars, Italian Cars...

Austin Healeys, Alfas, Triumphs, MGs, Ferraris, Porsches, Mercedes

if I had any kids I'd sell them for this car alone. Most cars restored to concourse condition. The Porsche and DB5 looked like they were brand new.

I went to this today. It was a great show for a first timer. Great turn-out of machinery and spectators. I'll put up some pics later. My mate brought his E-Type along for an hour.. He just got it home before the monsoon.

I was there and gone when the monsoon arrived. Forgot the camera and left the damn phone in the car. Was too lazy to walk back for it in that dead heat!
    Good show and well organised.

Could equally have gone in the "abandoned" thread. From an industrial estate in Wicklow. Flat front tyre suggests it hasn't moved for a while.

Will take a brave soul to get it back to anywhere near its former glory.

Edit: There's another classic in the top left. ;)
