Why do you have to check if its British or Irish? If there are three letters without a Z or an I then its a Brit!

    Or in this case Welsh.

Took a pic of an early '80's R4 daily driver in Portugal last year. Must look it up.

MOD EDIT: Post moved to appropriate thread.

This thread is for posting classic cars you've seen and took a picture of, not cars you own and happen to have for sale.

    Taken, not took.

The lack of rear bumper and side skirts makes it a lot lighter :). It is a lovely one otherwise, looks like a 1970 or 1971 model. Unfortunately, the original body colour has been changed...

It's in a garage. No front headlights either. It looks about a week away from being completely restored. The paint is perfect.

Any one seen any 87-d-12#### cars around yet? I wonder are people opting for the ZV plates on 87 imports?

Theres a few about and sure a ZV plate on an 87 car would be even dumber than an 87-D-12****

Lives on the road down to Dundrum, used to share a driveway with a few other classics and a LandRover

Lovely car, thanks for the picture.
Brings back memories of driving my friends one back in the mid '90's.
    That and Cavalier SRI's.
The 1.8 8V engine was great in those cars. Rare to see a MK1 Astra GTE, I would love one myself.

a fairly crusty '74 Volvo estate, and an MG at the other end of the condition scale, about to enter the great unknown ;) (shonky camera phone pic!!)

Kenmare again today. Unusual in that it has a foreign number (Dutch maybe?) but it's right hand drive.

    20170114_201854.jpgscreen capture software
This is indeed an "old style" pre-1978 Dutch number plate and not a Portugese. Although the number/letter combinations are similar between the two countries the actual embossed numbers/letters are thinner and rounder on a Dutch plate (compare it with the letters on the yellow Renault 4 one page back). Pre-78 plates are white embossed letters on a dark blue plate (not black). After 78 the plates became the typical yellow.
The allocation of the letters was alphabetical, so 'licence plate buffs' can actually estimate roughly as to what year the plate was allocated. This one was allocated around 1974-1975 which means it was imported as by that time the MG's were impact bumpers. It was (and sometimes still is) quite fashionable to actually drive a RHD British classic.

A few spots in Nerja in Spain today:

    20170125_193815.jpgimagen
It looks like a typical "Beacham" style restored Mk2, by looking at the modern door mirrors and upgraded interior.
These were popular during the hayday of the Mk2 craze 20 odd years back. There were loads of specialist that would restore your Mk2 to almost any type of specification your wished, as long as your pockets were deep enough: ranging from better seats, to complete XJ-R spec engines and drivetrain, tv screens in the headrest etc etc etc...
