Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

On a more serious note even a draw is of questionable value to the Spanish given their goal difference from the Dutch game.

Casillas should never of started. Spain are terrible and Chile are a very impressive team

Has this been the biggest collapse of any world champion?

Probably although France in 2002 played like a bunch of turds.

Anyone who drew Spain in their work draw must be happy with the prospect of getting their money back for last place in the World Cup

Casillas looks an old man out there..

Spain are so bad. Some seriously sloppy passing, keeper is gone to muck, no striker, no fight.

Get Alonso and Diego Costa off.

Put both Torres and David Villa on and go for broke.

What France did in 2002 as defending World Cup winners Spain are doing in 2014. #shockingworldcupdefense

France did this every second tournament for a decade. Win one, crash out, win one, crash out.

    Italy did it too.

I agree those sides where poor, but this Spanish side is shifting far more goals than any other side I can recall.

How Casillas even kept his place is astounding to me.

If Spain is ousted from the WC it will mean 3 of the last 4 defending champions will have been eliminated in the opening round. Incredible!

Yes. Would have been back for the knockout rounds if Spain weren't so bad.

I'd say this is worse. France got a point, Spain look like they'd be lucky to get that much.

Well they have lost 2 already so the odds were already against them.

It would also mean 2 dead rubbers as the last 2 games of the group.

Spain strike me as a team that have run out of ideas. They've been absolutely stifled in both games and individual mistakes from Casillas/Alonso have cost Spain dearly.

    Chile con carnage.

    Casillas is a broken man.

We are 13 minutes in, the Spanish wheel has started turning. The touch has become assured, the passsing adventurous, the pressing is aggressive.

Not at all, the excuses are reasons and the reasons are staring you in the face. Obviously I hope that Barcelona and Spain overcome their issues because when it's done right there is nothing better in football than their tiki taka style of football in full flow but, despite my optimism, anyone can see the problems that the Catalan club and the national team are experiencing.

Personally though I'm entirely upbeat about my next for Barcelona. Lucho seems to be aware that the end is nigh for this group and certain adjustments must be made. This tournament will be the clincher for the national team too. There are a host of terrific young Spaniards who can carry the torch that this group lit. The philosophy won't change, but the personnel must.

They're right here. Costa doesn't suit a tiki taka team.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,101 ✭✭✭Antibac

A lot of the older players should retire at the end of this tournament. Give the younger players a chance to build up for the euros. They can't be much worse than what is out there now
