Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well I was hoping we could have a discussion about it. Is it just that its being reported more or are accidents involving bikes up? Like I said, iv never heard so many reports

We've had a long spell of dry weather. Always brings out the bikers for more miles, always ends up in more accidents.

Worth noting that it's not unique to bikers, car accidents go up in the nice weather too. The heavy snow in Nov/Dec 2010 resulted in one of the safest Decembers on Irish roads in history. Popular belief is that bad weather brings more accidents, when in reality people tend to do less miles (and do them slower) during bad weather. I imagine the number of minor bumps and stuff increases, but the number of serious accidents drops.

This possibly won't be a popular opinion but I do think that the increase in accidents at this time of year could be linked in some cases to people hopping on their bike for the first time in (usually) six months or more and the bike not having been serviced or even given the once over or the rider's skills having deteriorated during the period off the bike.
As I said, possibly not a popular opinion and I'm not saying every single accident during the Summer months is down to this but I do think it's a possibility in some cases.

I ride all year round and I travel through 3 counties daily on my commute to work and I can count on one hand the amount of bikes I meet between October and April (give or take a month or two either side).

Also, just want to add I'm not speculating on this particular biker, I have read nothing about the crash.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Nothing to suggest he was on a bike, vague details in report

    Condolences to his family.

There have been a lot of deaths this year of bikers on Irish roads, and the last few weeks have been a bit crazy for them. I'd look at the hot weather causing fatigue and such to be an issue of sorts. Especially as people who are usually daily commuters (me) will take the bike out for 100 miles just because the weather demands it. And I would think a lot of people would have a destination in mind and not stop to hydrate properly until they get there. I am not speculating on this lads death being from that, I literally have just read the article where it mentions nothing about a bike, but in general summer road deaths, I would think it's a more likely explanation.

Judging by the threads we get here about people who can't lube and adjust a chain or even realise how important it is, it's no surprise that a lot of low competence riders come out of the woodwork in nice weather. They're a danger to other riders as much as to themselves. Its not the year-round riders who suddenly go splat when the sun comes out. This isn't a palatable truth but it is the truth.

    Scrap the cap!
