I've learned to deal with the fact people have different opinions to me. TLOU was brilliant not perfect but brilliant nonetheless.

    Plot synopsis
That's so sad I think I'm going to cry.
    Joel's pretty cool
    This kid's kind of annoying
So that's the generator started now.......wtf was that?
    Ellie's growing on me
I'm actually watching all the cut - scenes?
    I f***ing hate this deer
    Joel's pretty cruel
I got you baby girl - together again
    Giraffes
    Kill them All
    The End.... or is it?

It had a few annoying Naughty Dog tropes which get repetitive over time but overall the gameplay is incredibly solid. That's all you really want in a narrative-driven game like that - gameplay which doesn't irritate you to the point of destroying the immersion.

TLOU nails that whereas my biggest problem with the last couple of Uncharted games is that I'm constantly having the immersion destroyed by the repetitive gameplay and the disconnect between the characters in the cut-scenes and their actions in the game.

Have never played TLOU, brief synopsis / comparative games?

The Last of Us is set in a post apocalyptic world where fungus spores have infected the majority of humans turning them into zombie like creatures and any survivors will kill each other for food or weapons. Joel, who lost his daughter at the beginning of the outbreak 20 years ago, is tasked with bringing Ellie, who has shown an immunity to the infection, to a rebel group to help reverse-engineer a cure.

The game itself is a 3rd Person survival horror with a mix of stealth, shooting and very minor puzzle elements that seem to always involve ladders. There is nothing groundbreaking in the gameplay but it is handled with a great deal of finesse so it never feels laboured or awkward imo. Combined with the absorbing story and top rate acting and production, it really is a great experience.

Comparable games? The Uncharted games would be an obvious starting point although they would have none of the sombreness of TLOU. Metro Last Light would probably be another good reference point or the rebooted Tomb Raider from a couple of years ago. The escort mission element and the fact that it is survival horror would call to mind Resident Evil 4 but it doesn't feel like that game at all and the escort part is handled with an awful lot more skill than that even if there are times where it can jar ('How the feck can Ellie scamper past those fellas right under their noses without them seeing her but if I stick my head out from behind a book shelf 50 yards away I get shot in the face!!!). Some of the stealth elements remind me of the mechanics in something like Splinter Cell:Blacklist but obviously with a completely different setting. Hope that helps!

‘Hey, I'm a lover not a fighter! I'm just going to shoot these 67 very similarly attired goons right in the face. The ones I can't shoot in the face, I'm going to blow up with grenades!!!'

Didn't someone on here criticise the game by saying it was merely brilliant? It was something along those lines…

Do you like climbing, mediocre shooting and more climbing?

LOL, I got it at Christmas having never played any unchartered game before. I couldn't agree more. Definitely not my thing. Looking for slightly different coloured bits of wall to climb is basically the game. The usual bad video game writing but great graphics.

Anyone know of any good PS4 Pro bargains out there? Best I can seem to do is a Gamestop (ugh) bundle for €400 and flog the two games for €22 in CEX but I'd rather not give them trade. Argos have some great regular PS4 deals but their Pro ones are a real letdown. :(

What deal do they have? I was there 2 days ago and they had only ps4 pro and 3 months ps+ for 399eu.

It's a fairly pitiful deal where they're trying to clear old stock. FIFA 15 is one of the games to choose from ffs.

It was on their website, but apparently website and store offers are separate and as of this morning they're out of stock. It was just two games you could flog in CEX for about €23, nothing Earth-shattering.

Just spoke to a guy in-store and he told me you can get the new Ghost Recon for €30 along with 3 months free PS+, CEX are giving €42 for Ghost Recon so that's around the same value I suppose.

Must be tight margins on the Pro that there's no real "bargain" bundles the same way there is for the regular version. Even worse when Sony have said there'll never be "Pro-only" releases and most developers don't seem to want to take advantage of the hardware. Even dedicated "Pro patches" like for Dark Souls 3 can't hit 60 fps.

Hey now, CEX will give you 60 cents for it, that's a bargain in anyone's language.

The pro aint some beastly console that the devs are being super lazy and not getting the most from,in fact some of the patches or work in games that were built with it in mind are quite impressive.

Its not a huge leap from the OG PS4 though, especially in the cpu department so it was never going to be able to maintain 60fps in a lot of titles, thats why i wont be buying one.

You seem to have taken offense to implications that weren't there mate.

I'm not saying that developers are "super lazy" for not aiming to take full advantage of the Pro's upgraded hardware, I'm saying that Sony themselves are disinclining them towards doing it by saying their focus is on ensuring all games are viable for both versions of the PS4. Releasing a "mid-generation upgrade" console means that Sony should be aiming to get the 1st party/exclusive developers to be using as much of the baseline PS4's capability as early as possible rather than that happening towards the end of the generation as happened previously.

As to the hardware, it's not a generational leap in terms of upgrade but a 25-30% increase in performance power is still significant. Yes, certain developers are taking advantage of it with their patches and I do laud them for it.

I think Nioh actually did a really good job with their take on "baseline vs Pro" development, you can either take increased graphical fidelity at the expense of a capped framerate or you can increase framerate at the expense of a drop in graphical fidelity. Going back to my Dark Souls 3 example I'd certainly lose a little bit of the lustre in the game if it meant it ran at a smooth 60 fps.

Honestly didnt take any offense man, just offering my opinion on the pro.

My point was that 60fps is not a realistic target unless the game was built with it in mind. The pro cant brute force something like Dark Souls 3 to run at a consistent 60fps unfortunately. I think they missed a trick and should have went further with the mid gen upgrade and gave the cpu a bit more ooomph.
