Suarez back(if he's decently fit) should help a lot for Uruguay. Cavani can move back into his preferred role, and they should have more pace and creativity to their play.

That being said, England's pace could cause havoc, I expect a few goals in this one.

    England to win 3-2

You cannot go by the Honduras game. The Hondurans were willing to take out any player to win the ball in that game. The English players were more concerned with staying injury free. It was a nothing friendly with many of the starters not even togged out.

England should play a diamond formation.

    Gerrard as DM

Lallana and Henderson as center midfielders.

    Sterling as AM.

    Rooney and Sturridge up top.

Solves all dilemmas. All players playing in their best positions.

Can't imagine Suarez is fully fit when they didn't even throw him on for 15 minutes against Costa Rica when they desperately needed a goal.

Tough one to call tonight but I'm not getting on the England bandwagan again, can't believe so many are writing Uruguay off after the loss the other night, they are a much better side than they showed there and with Suarez back I think they'll have too much for England...

There back line can be exposed though , I think Godin is a collosal defender world class but he has played an awful lot of games this season and can be exposed by Englands pace...

Never the less I expect England to loose, Rooney to have a shocker and be all over the headlines tomorrow morning with articles of how they could have done this that or the other better followed by ' building for the future' and calls for Ross Barkley to be new messiah and how had he started they'd have won the world cup...

Self implosion tonight...red card maybe...penalty definatly..

If the same Wayne Rooney you've seen for some time shows up tonight then given he didn't score in his last game he should score here due to his 1 in 2 record in scoring terms the last 4 or 5 seasons.

i refuse to get caught up in this bandwagon again. uruguay will win tonight. lump at 3.9 on betfair. remortgage if necessary i cant stress this enough.
I got them at 3.6 yesterday, english bookies bias makes anyone playing england far more generous odds than what a neutral would have them at...

Also on the England "chances" front, they couldnt beat one top team, let alone 4 to go the whole way!

Fancy England to win this handily enough, can see a tight first half but England getting a goal to lead at HT. Second half England will get another 1 or 2 as Uruguay throw bodies forward trying to get back into it.

That's why the last 16 game could be more difficult than getting out of the group for a Hodgson side.

I've always thought they'll get out of the group, I think they'll win 3-1 tonight.

The worry for England fans should be that Roy seemed to genuinely think Rooney had a good game last time out, he was poor, although definitely not near the worst for England, he's just not a left winger.

I don't think he is great at number 10 either but it's still much better than left wing, he is always capable of producing some magic and scoring but when it comes to creating chances as a number 10 should he just doesn't look up to it.

He is their best striker but has been mainly played out of position the past two seasons and Sturridge is the form choice.

If I was picking the team I'd go with an attack like this.

    Sturridge Sterling Welbeck
    ...............Rooney............

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Would swap Welbeck for a third midfielder, Uruguay are very pedestrian so I expect the English to be very positive tonight, Lugano is a glacier.

I have been sucked into it, Money back offer on any bets up to €25 on Betfair Sportsbook if England lose. All I want is no draw.

People underestimating uruguay in here. With suarez back, and needing to prove themselves after the opening defeat, Ive money on 3-1 and 3-2 uruguay.

Sneaky 5er on Suarez first goal as well.

Suarez 40-1 hat-trick and 22-1 red card are both worth a small dabble IMO-for good or bad I have a feeling he'll be the name in the headlines tomorrow; perhaps shades of Maradona in 86...

Lads, I've simulated it out, going to be an exciting 6-3 win for England apparently

Even though I'll be cheering on England tonight, I can only see it ending in tears for us. If Suarez is fully fit, he could have a field day against our back 4. 3-1 to Uruguay, and the English media to start sharpening their knives.

Without the support from the weak midfield Suarez will struggle as hard as he will try to win the game, he will get chances.

I fancy England myself, still think Gerrard/Henderson midfield is weak and lacks any creation. Their Forward line is really good although Welbeck is a little weak pit the Ox isn't fit. Englands defence has a weakness in Johnson but I think they will win by 2 goals to 1.

Lads, why does this simply little game do this to us??? I've 35 years old. I've been watching football for maybe 29 of those. My teams (club & international) have never done anything. I've never had anything but heart-ache and misery. Relegations and promotions designed purely to hit me with a relegation. More penalty shoot-out defeats than anyone should ever go through.

And yet here I am 139 minutes before kick off blaring 'Three Lions' out and dreaming of a 3-0 win.

    Football.

Ive England backed ew to win it. I still think they could go far. I think the Italy Eng game was the game with the best quality so far. No team is standing out as being really good or defensively strong. If Eng get a lead tonight they will be very dangerous on the counter and could score a few goals. Any word on the teams yet?

England should shave it but they're odds on with some bookies which is madness imo. Uruguay have among the two best strikers in the world on their team, so do Holland and everyone wrote them off before a ball was kicked.

2-1 Uruguay with England being the better side. Would love a Suarez goal so so much

Sounds like you've caught a dose of delusiatis anglicus; it tends to flare up about every two years but don't worry-it's easily cured by a series of shots (usually 5 from 12 yards out.)

Their midfield and defence are awful, bar Godin. Forlan looks past it. Cavani doesn't look interested. Suarez isn't match fit, with that midfield lacking any creativity he's going to have to do it himself. I can see why people don't fancy them to win.

Think England's pace up forward will win out in the end.

I'd take having the opportunity to have a penalty shoot-out defeat right now!

Same team starts for England but will there be a rotation of positions I wonder?

Can see Rooney starting in a central position tonight with Sterling providing pace on the wing.

    Also, who is England's penalty-taker?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,316 ✭✭✭kevohmsford

Gerrard will take the penalties I would imagine.

Amazed how many people here fancy England.
People seem to forget that Roy Hodgson is the manager and is their major weak link.
Think Uruuguay will be better than Saturday.

    Should be an exciting match.

Uruguay are a massive price, almost 3/1.

England are staying evens while a Uruguay win or a draw keep going out now both 11/4.. That say to me they have England as huge favorites then.

Bookies only follow where the money is going. We do, as a country, go way too far from one extreme to another in terms of optimism and the odds are showing that.

The fact he wasn't given even the last 10 minutes of the Costa Rica game would suggest he was a fair bit away from full fitness. Liverpool fans must be crossing their fingers, toes, eyes and testicles.

As much as I want to see a fit Suarez against England, hearing that his manager said he can only play 70 mins tonight bloody terrifies me.

I see that Andros Townsend has given up being Englands answer to Gareth Bale, and is instead making a name for himself with long range shots winded sentences on the international punditry scene.

Money back with Paddy Power if Uruguay win.

Glen Hoddle using Portugal as a yard stick for how England should be playing. This coming off arguably the best English performance in over a decade, and one of Portugal's worst.
