I love watching lightning, there's something amazing, yet equally terrifying about it.

Though I find my point funny, considering I was scared of lightning as a child.
Ohhh, that they are. Flash of light, waiting to hear that rumble going, OHHHH, me and my mother just love it.

One of my favorite things about Florida is the epic lightning. Massive bolts, great big booms, proper levels of rain.

Nothing helps me fall asleep quicker than a good rainy night, actually. :)

Gutted about going out of Europe tonight, Rosenborg really weren't anything special over the two legs but conceding poor goals on the stroke of half time two weeks running is pretty bad on our part. Poor second half performance tonight means we can't really be too annoyed about it but disheartened all the same.

Fair play to Dundalk over the last few years. No team in Europe is gonna be over the moon to draw them going forward. They're well organised and can play really really good football on the deck too. Hope Cork can do the business tonight.

Yesterday I was gonna buy a bike because I watched tour de France. Now I want golf clubs because I'm watching the open. I bought a tennis racket two weeks ago because of Wimbledon.

Talk about an addictive personality. I must be an advertiser's dream!

On his friend Chris Cornell's birthday as well.

    Very sad.

That's very sad to hear. No matter how good someone's life may seem on the outside, anyone can be susceptible to personal demons.

Depression and dark thoughts are a process of the brain, which can fail you just like any other organ you have. There wouldn't be a stigma attached to getting help for an ill stomach or a kidney complaint, and I hope we can reach the point where going to a professional for depression or some other mental ailment can be met with the same level of sympathy. I don't think we're there yet, but hopefully it's not too far away.

I've been to two funerals of people who decided to take their own life, both were young men who had not given any indication of the suffering they were going through before they did it, and the sense of loss and grief that the people left behind have to come to terms with is gut-wrenching.

I remember watching a documentary once about suicide and they interviewed one guy who had miraculously managed to survive jumping off a bridge in an attempt to take his life. They asked him what was going through his mind as he was falling and his answer was, "I wish I hadn't done this."

If by chance there's anyone reading this that has had such thoughts in recent times, please go and talk to someone and share what you're going through. You will get a friendly ear, people will try to help you, and there's no reason to feel ashamed to seek help. We all need some support at some point in our lives.

Absolutely. You never truly know what battles a person is facing. Mental illness, depression and suicidal thoughts don't care for someone's background or celebrity status, it can't be bought or reasoned with and is a daily fight. I don't think it's a coincidence that it's his close friend Chris Cornell's would-be birthday. Sang as his funeral. 6 kids just lost their dad. RIP.

It was a kick in the gut for me when I read suicide by hanging, as I lost a friend via the same way, his 3 year anniversary tomorrow. And it still hurts mentally. And the sad thing is no one saw the signs/it coming until it was sadly too late.

I'll never forget the day I found out, a sent a text to a friend asking if it was true, took the wind right out of my sails.

Depression is horrible, have had it for a sizeable portion of my life. It's rarely easy, and it can be a struggle just to get through a lot of days.

Man Im gutted to hear Chester died. It fcuking sucks to hear someone who influenced you as a kid or teen to be gone from this world, but even more so from suicide.

For me I got into music in 96, starting buying my first few albums and CD singles with money from my paper round, I never really bothered with music until then and back in 96 I was into pop music and rap as they were mainstream. Being a wrestling fan, WWF theme music was my first real experience of rock and metal music. I enjoyed the rock sounds so much in some of the themes.

In 2000 I purchased Vol 4 of the WWE theme music CD (the one with My Time and Break the Walls down). But later that year I picked up 2 albums, both were my first real toe dips outside of mainstream pop music. One was Chocolate Starfish by Limp Bizkit and the other was Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park.

I loved Hybrid Theory, I would listen to it every time I left the house with my trusty Sony Discman. I wore that CD out until I got a Mini Disc.

For me Linkin Park means a lot to me. I loved their sound, the lyrics and especially Chesters voice. Without Linkin Park I wouldn’t have given many other metal/rock bands a chance. In 99, my mate was a big Metallica fan and I never gave them a chance thinking metal was just loud noise, but Linkin Park gave me the bridge I needed to open my mind and broaden my horizon musically. With out them, I wouldn’t be the big metal fan I am today.

I never shied away from being a LP fan, even though they were considered too poppy to be considered real rock/metal by most hard metal fans (A point made by most Metalica fans as LP supported them one year). Their music evolved over the years and I always pick up their album on day 1 even though their sound changed so much (esp in the last 8 years). For me LP will always have a special place in my heart.

Hearing Chester passed shook me. Its mad to think someone I never meant personally has such an effect on me, it’s a weird feeling I will never get used too to hear someone died, but even more so considering the circumstances. I felt the same when Eddie died and Gary Speed and most recently Chris Cornell.

I cant imagine what he was going through, whatever battle he faced I can only think of the pain he had to go through considering he had such a big family. I am very lucky in life not to have lost anyone close to me yet in my 30 years on this earth, let alone how fortunate I am never to lose anyone through suicide and depression. I will always be fond of Chester and be greatful how much of a positive impact he and his band had on my life. Im truly just gutted.

Lads, heads up, but Humble Bundle are doing 90% of Telltale's games for round €13.

    https://www.humblebundle.com/telltale-bundle-2017

Thats the Game of Thrones, both Walking Dead S1 and S2, Boarderlands, Batman and Minecraft (and a tonne of other small games) for about €13. I paid about €10 each for them in sales before and loved the value, so €13 for the lot is crazy. Also gives discounts for future seasons of Minecraft and Walking Dead, and possibly more in a few days.

Mostly point and click, story driven games, and Wolf Amoung Us sadly isn't there (yet), but looks awesome value.

Are their any point and click variartions on mobile? I see Broken Sword is up there and while I loved it, Id love any recommendations for something new.

Wolf Amoung Us is a crime noir story. You play the Big Bad Wolf who, along side Snow White, is investigating the murder of a woman in a dark city inhabited by fairytale characters. It's quite dark and gritty, based on a comic book, I think, and the story is really good. You make choices and decisions, with conversations having options for you to make.

That's Telltale's m.o. You control what the character says, what decisions they make. In theory. In reality, the plots mostly turn out the same no matter what you say and do, but it can still be quite from from a role playing perspective.

No they're available on XBox and PS as well. Not sure about Nintendo platforms. Wolf Among Us is highly recommended. Also Walking Dead Season 1.

The two Walking Dead games are good (haven't played the 3rd yet) and you don't need to be a fan of the show as its completely different for the most part. But the game of thrones one isn't great, I got bored by the end of part 3.

From TTG I've played Walking Dead 1, Tales from the Borderlands, and their Poker Night games. Own a few more that I haven't gotten around to playing yet, but the ones I have played I really enjoyed.

Oh my God, play The Wolf Among Us. It's Telltale's adaption of the comic book "Fables" where well-known fairytale characters are uprooted from their lives and have to slum it in a poor neighbourhood in NY, whilst hiding from real people. It's v cool seeing the stories you know as just a backstory now, and what happened to them afterwards.

Walking Dead S1 is a fantastic stand-alone story about you (Lee) surviving and keeping your impromptu-adopted daughter Clem safe. She's a bad ass. It's a great story. S2 is still very good but not as great as the previous 2 mentioned.

BTW these Telltale games can be played on mobiles/tablets as they're point and click, they're short interactive novels where the hardest thing you do is make choices about how you'll respond and who you'll save.

Of the telltale games that I've played, Walking Dead S1 > Wolf Among Us > Walking Dead S2 > Walking Dead 400 Days (which wasn't bad, it was just DLC taster/filler) > Game Of Thrones (which I lost interest halfway through)

I enjoyed the GoT game, but I felt it suffered from being set in the main universe of the show. They try to use Ramsey Bolton as the main antagonist, but we know his fate (and how little we can do to actually gazzump him). It worked well with some dramatic irony, striking deals with Tyrion in Kings Landing right before Joffery's Wedding, but it stunted the plot in other ways.

I love Walking Dead, but be warned, it's misery porn. There's minimal cross over with the show (I think one character pops up, but its not in a way you'd need to know who he was) and I think its actually more based on the comics than the show. I'll say this too; I would walk through fire to protect Clementine! :P One of the better kid characters in a story.

I got Game of Thrones free on the PS4 with PS+, so I'll likely play that at some point. My net isn't great, so I have to stagger downloads because 1-2gb still takes a few hours.

Heh, one of my friends was the same. I was watching her play the game before, and she said she would screw over anyone and everyone to help Clem :pac:

For anyone wanting to try them out, I think a lot of the Telltale Games games have their first episode free on each platform.

And don't think it was answered, but the Humble Bundle is just for the PC version

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,487 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

    Actually.

Because I already had the Walking Dead (seasons 1 and 2, and the Michonne game) and Game of Thrones, I've got spare codes now that I can gift to people, if they want them? I'd want to give them to regulars of the PW Forum though, but if anyone wants to play them, let me know. PC versions, and it's Steam keys, so you'll need Steam to play them :)

Also got keys to Puzzle Agent 1 and 2 if anyone wants them.

(I'll add, if there's competition for the keys, I'll use a random generator thingy to decide who gets them :) I'd say Walking Dead should be bundled together, and GOT can be a separate thing if people wants them. )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

That's v kind! I would love TWD Michonne but only if someone else doesn't snap it up, would rather someone new dipping a toe into Telltale games!

I have them all already for PS4. Bit of a telltale fan myself tbh. I even got the Minecraft one and I knew nothing about Minecraft before I played it :D

I really enjoyed the Batman game as well as Tales from the Borderlands too.

I'd fully recommend Life Is Strange to anyone who enjoys the Telltale Games, I think the season pass was free a couple months ago on PS+. Similar gameplay but with a well implemented
    time travel
twist, great soundtrack & story plus there's a new one coming out soon.
