The media at the beginning of the campaign were quoting those figures.
I would imagine nationally but Dublin would make up 80% of those.

Just keep in mind that less than 1/3 of all civil service posts are actually based in Dublin. People have a perception that the civil service is very 'Dublin-centric'- its actually not........

There are posts going all around the country- with a few particular hotspots.

A good indication of where posts might be- would be to get a feeling for where the TCO posts are (the TCO thread in this forum- will give you a good indication).........

Straight off- you have the likes of Peoplepoint- who will likely mop up 70-80 posts in Clonskeagh. These posts were supposed to be filled by serving civil servants- but very very few wanted to work in Clonskeagh (its at the back of UCD).

Then- look at the clusters where people have gotten repeat TCO posts- Carrick-on-Shannon, Longford, Athlone, various locations in Cork and recently in Kerry), Revenue in Limerick, Department of Ag in Castlebar etc etc etc

I have no idea how many posts there are- but they most certainly are not Dublin only in nature.

Also, is it possible to move to a job in a different region if you accept a post in Dublin?

Normally if you accept a post- you are expected to hold the post and suitable from the perspective of sick leave and PMDS for a period of 2-3 years (though PMDS and sick leave are now on 4 year cycles)- before you will be considered for a transfer.

Never say never and if you look at the back pages of the CPSU and PSEU magazines- they are full of people seeking transfers.

Transfers are done on the basis of a head-to-head swap- aka if you are based in Naas and want to work in Dublin- you have to find someone in Dublin who is seeking to work in Naas- and then you both apply to take each other's posts (the union normally handle this leg).

Possibly issues arising- some people on work share arrangements- may not be entitled to the same arrangements in other roles, some locations may not have parking availability for someone who drives, some additional payments for certain type posts may be 'personal to holder' rather than associated with the role etc etc etc

If you have questions- make a list and ask.........

can any one tell me what the qualifying score was for stage 2 wondering if it was higher then then stage 1

Wish I had found this thread weeks ago to know that others were in the same boat. I found the online aptitude tests challenging in that I had two borrowed laptops, both of which had their own challenges (one kept flickering and the other would randomly shut windows) and as well as that my 5year old kept interrupting me. I had arranged my nephew to watch him and keep him away while doing the tests but he disappeared...so all in all I was shocked to pass that part and do well at it. Oh yes and also I had no calculator so that part was all done in my head and a tiny bit of scribbling on paper lol. Had a massive sigh of relief when it was all done lol.

After all that I found the supervised tests 'easier' in that there were no distractions, decent pc to do it on etc. The fact that they're timed does make it challenging too and have to think quick. Was chuffed to find out that I made it through to interview stage. Now dreading the interview as I am really bad at them and always have been, so need to brush up majorly on my skills there.

Just as an aside they said in the tests that we were not to discuss the content of the tests outside or on social network and I'm sure that applies to here too so if I'd just be very careful of that and not go into any detail on the questions etc. I know they've probably finished the aptitude tests now but even so, best not to forego a possible job for the sake of this.

I believe to continue on to stage 3, your score must be within a certain range of your original score in stage 1.

Has anyone heard anything about Stage 2 in Mayo/Roscommon, Longford/Leitrim/Sligo or Galway/Clare? I placed pretty high in Stage 1 in each region but haven't heard anything at all back yet.

In Dublin they're getting onto stage 3, the interview. As far as I can make out it seems like they're filling the positions up here first, then will concentrate on the other areas. It makes sense insofar as if an applicant has applied for Dublin first then another area, they might start with the Dublin only choices from the top down, keeping some of those who chose multiple areas for those other areas etc. That of course is just my own opinion/idea of how they're doing it x

I picked Dublin and two other western regions. I'm more interested in the western areas. However, I'm fairly high up on the Dublin listings for Stage 3.

Does anyone know how it would work if I was offered a job in Dublin? Would I be removed from the other regional panels? Would there be any point not taking a Dublin position and holding out for other regions? Are jobs only coming up for Dublin (mainly Peoplepoint and Immigration Control) or is there a good chance other regions will be called soon?

I've no idea,my best advice would be to wait til they talk to you regarding a job offer and ask them then. Did you have Dublin as 1st choice or the other regions? I've seen mention on here that if you refuse a job offer from them then you're knocked off the panel but not sure of what happens in your case.

When I selected the three regions, there was no 'ranking' of areas as far as I can recall. (And if there was, I'd have put Dublin last). Obviously a job is a job, but I wouldn't like to hinder my chances of another region by taking a less appealing region.

But you're right, I can worry about that if I get an offer down the line.

Hey. I got accepted to the interview stage. Just wondering if anyone else's mentioned the immigration officer post too?

Anyone who applied for cork hear anything regarding stage 2?

Jumping way, way ahead of myself here but does anyone know how promotions work in the civil service. Do you need to serve a minimum period at a grade before you can go for promotion? Is promotion only done through exams/panels every few years?

I'm working at a much higher level in the public service at the moment and I'd worry about being stuck on such a low salary for years on end with no chance of promotion.

My message had a separate paragraph in relation to the immigration. Saying if I was interested in applying for that position too to send them an email.

Mine didn't say that, just gave my results, said I was successful and would be contacted shortly for interview.

Do you mind if I ask what rank you are at? x

In the ninetys. So not really near the top.

    Hi all,

Got my results back from the supervised exam & got the nod for the interviews. My placing dropped a bit from the first round - the latter part of the numerical exam *really* caught me out and I thought I may have blown it completely - so despite dropping some places, I'm just delighted to still be in with a shout.

In comparison, the verbal part went by in a daze. When the error checking came along, I had relaxed and did well.

I've been unemployed for quite some time and it would be amazing to get something out of this.

I don't know what to expect next.

    Best of luck to everyone.

Yeah mine had that too, am going to apply. I guess it sounds fairly interesting even if location and hours aren't ideal.

Seems to have only been people in the top ranks who got that additional paragraph in their emails.

Hi and well done to all who've made it this far.

Was wondering might this be offered to those who initially ticked the box to be considered for the prison service on their application (At least, I think there was such an option??)

Yea I think I'll do the same although I have done shift work before and was not a fan! If you do apply for it and then decide not to take it, would it discount you from the normal panel?

I don't think I picked that box, but it is so long since the whole process started so who knows!

Was wondering that too, I'm guessing it would as we have to declare an interest in it beforehand. Was also wondering if you would be stuck in that area as it's so specialised.

I'd guess that it would. The information document linked in the publicjobs message says that they'll decide on your suitability for the airport job and as a clerical officer at the interview. I'd say they'll only offer one job and it's take it or leave it. Don't take this as gospel obviously, I don't know any more than anyone else, I'm just guessing based on the info they gave us.

I'm going to email them anyway, I'll take whatever's going tbh.
