Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Costa Rica blowing any argument of lack of talent in the England ranks completely out of the water.

Or Ireland for that matter. People go on about we havent got the players but if the team is set up right and has a lot of heart they can do damage in international football.

Costa Rica are technically much better than us though. They also play at a much higher tempo

    Why?

They've turned into a good team suddenly. That happens sometimes.

Costa Rica controlling the tempo of the game, their work-rate has been immense. They've been excellent in possession.
Look the most likely to score a second at the minute as well.

Thats a cop out to be fair, no reason why our players arent as good as them technically. Its just they have a manager that instills fearlessness into his side and isnt afraid to have a go.

    Offsides have been ridiculous.

Italy aren't in trouble yet, they should beat Uruguay. England though...even if Italy come back, England have to beat Costa Rica by three clear goals..

Robbie 'I once played in a Man United team with Ryan Giggs' Savage obviously thinks constantly talking high pitched and really fast is the key to being a good commentator.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭LightningBlue

If Cerci comes on, Italy are fcuked. The game needs Immobile.

    Balotelli being a fool.

So your saying we are (Ireland) technically as good as them?

There is a big reason why they are not as good technically though.

That being they are not as good technically :pac:

Example, touch ability to hold possession and pass the ball well are just not there in numbers.

Can't see Italy do anything here. They are clueless

*Two goals. If Italy come back Costa Rica will only be 3 GD better off.

We have plenty of ball players who are technically very good, mccarthy, gibson, mcgeady, coleman, wilson etc its just they play with too much fear alot like the English team. Havent got the bottle to go that extra step further imo.

Costa Rica playing well as a team

I think if it stays 1-0, a draw v Uruguay will send Italy through on goal difference. Lose 2-0, and a draw would put Uruguay through on goals scored. Italy need to be careful as to how they approach the end of this game.

Why not play it to Insigne...

Ref has been a disaster. Wouldn't expect to see him again in the tourny.

Costa Rica with a bit of Donegal tactics there

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

I'm enjoying this, trouble is Italy will score one just to piss me off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,397 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Pirlo being tackled there was a fist pump moment.

+1. They even brought on a guy named Urine or something close.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,416 ✭✭✭Zico

Costa Rica giving the ball away too much, fortunately Italy are worse!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,805 ✭✭✭Lennonist

Prandelli should've subbed Balotelli. Immobile the obvious one to come on.

Would a point be enough for Costa Rica?

    Not necessarily

    Brutal effort there

    Bye bye England.

  • Registered Users Posts: 369 ✭✭microsim

News from the England camp is that Rooney has already downed a few bars of chocolate and has ordered a chip butty.

  • Registered Users Posts: 661 ✭✭✭derm0j073

A slight lack of composure there .

If Italy concede again, they'll have to beat Uruguay in game 3!

Italy will probably be happy to keep it 1-0. A draw will do against Uruguay. 2-0 and they need to beat Uruguay. I think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭Unsung Hero

Ran out of ideas and CR are just chasing everything down.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭Lightbulb Sun

They can fairly pass a ball!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭LightningBlue

Costa Rica deserve a second goal.
Italy have been very laboured and have created nothing.
Just lobbing aimless balls over the Costa Rica defence and getting caught offside. Surely if your going to keep doing that Immobile is the player to bring on?

  • Registered Users Posts: 111 ✭✭Unsung Hero

    Another offside.

Costa Rica such great team work and discipline. Italy sloppy

Diaz having a Paul McGrath-esque day out there. Just seems to be blocking everything.

Brilliant stuff by Costa Rica. Loving their composure on the ball at this late stage.
