I am considering going to CIT in September, hoping to get into 2nd year of Commerce with the view to moving to UCC after 2 years to complete a L8 degree.

Just wanted to know a little about the collage such as class sizes and if mayn people from outside Cork attend CIT (from Waterford). I will be moving from DIT down and would like people's views on Deans Hall student accommodation and if that would be the best option for me.

Also are the disability service good as I have a disability.

Walking distance to the city center?

Finally what sort of clubs and societies are there, am a very shy person and a little worried I won't make friends.

Class sizes generally aren't that big. Maybe 30 was the max for mine as we were all divided out.

As regards with a mix, expect lots of kerry people, tipp people, a few limerick, cork of course and a good mix of the rest.

Deans hall is grand, just your usual student accommodation.

Wouldn't be walking into the city centre as its a good 45 min walk id say. The 5 and the 8 buses go near you there which go to the city and then Wilton shopping centre, B-Town bar would be close to Deans hall anyhow.

I know Parchment Square and Eden Hall would have lifts for you anyhow and disabled rooms should you need them.

Loads of clubs! There's a clubs and societies day in the first few weeks to sign up.

It's easy make friends in college! Fresh start, everyone is in the same boat! ! Just socialise and talk!

    Great years!

Based on my experience in Mechanical Engineering:

Class sizes depend on the course, in general if you've 100 people in 1st year they're divided into 4 groups of 25 with group A & B sharing some classes and groups C & D sharing some classes, group A & B never share with C & D so you'll have no contact with 50% of the people in your year. In second year the overall class size is reduced as people drop out, fail etc so you'll meet the majority of people in your year and in third year you'll meet everyone.

Deans Hall, I imagine, is like every other type of student accomodation, it's expensive and basic, you'll get a bed, desk, toilet and you'll share the apartment with 2, 3 or even 4 other people. It's perfect if you've never lived away from home rthough personally I'd recommend going through the CIT accomodation office and renting a room in a house instead as you often tend to get beter value for money (I wouldn't get accomodation without going through the CIt accomodation office as they keep an eye ont he quality of the accomodationa dn all landlords are registered etc).

It's a 40-45 minute walk to the city cente, not a bad walk at all, practically in a straight line. The #5 bus stops outside CIT and brings you to Patrick Street in town which is as central as you'll get. The bus runs very regularly. The #8 bus is there too.

There are loads of clubs and societies and they have a day set aside at the start of the year at which the clubs & socs have stands and you can ask all the questions you want and sign up.

I've a good deal of experience in college, both as an 18 year old and as someone closer to 30, what I can categorically say is that you get out of it what you put into it. If you attend lectures you pass your course. If you don't attend you probably wont pass. If you socialise you'll find more ways to socialise, nobody will knock on your door asking you to come out and play if you don't sign up and you don't make an effort.

    Enjoy!

I would imagine he's referring to the CIT Deans Hall just off Melbourne Road.

The UCC Deans hall is a 2-5 min walk to the city yes.

The loft is your local bar on the Monday night. They throw big sessions for CIT people. Christmas Day is also a big day for CIT people come from all over to visit the college that day for a serious party.

It's in the first week of December. It's just the name given to CIT's big party. It's the same as WITmass in Waterford.

Christmas day is pretty much outlawed now and bars around CIT were told that if they facilitated CIT Christmas Day they would have their licenses revoked.
