Watched it. Thought it was good. Agreed, it's been a while so a decent recap would've been good. Also, The Van Damme bus driver actor has been recast which was confusing.
That sense (no pun intended.. or was it.. :)) of dread when the baddie showed up was still there so that worked well.

Forgot this was due over Xmas, might give it a look later. As with others I'd struggle to recall a lot of the back story without a recap.

I loved it, the pacing was still far from perfect but far faster than usual, which probably hid some huge holes but it was quick enough I did not notice on the initial run threough. Acting was superb.
When his mother embraced the actor in her house, as a parent, it was so hallmark but so well done, I almost cried.

All in all, has me revved up for season 2, which is annoying s it is so far away.

Actor who played capheus quit after two episodes of season 2. I like the injoke about "you look different" "oh I got my hair cut" but new actor way taller than original. Jms needs to take more control of series, I'm getting tired of the lgbtq message of the week that the warkowskis are pushing. I want some jms story arcs

The special was meant to welcome people back and set up Season 2. It set up the plot points the rest of the season will cover with the Whispers scenes.

I don't see the need for a "catch up" with netflix when you can binge watch at will. I was hoping they would open up the sensate "world" show more clusters, the evil agent annoying nomi was laughable and the bad guy German gangster was as scary as Justin Beiber. JMS can world build but the set ups with whispers were a bit predictable and unless they show that he I a small cog in a very big machine then I will be very underwhelmed.

True, one of the downsides of the episode.
the bad guy German gangster was as scary as Justin Beiber. .
I looked at it the other way as if to show he was a fluke and that people like that do not last long. Either defeated easily by our protagonist or culled by a rival gang with the expected turf war.

    Ouch.

Imagine if there had been a terrorist attack in Berlin on NYE involving multiple shooters.

Just got through the christmas special there, found it to be frustratingly problematic.

The big orgy scene which consists of all the sense8's joining in as Lito makes love to his boyfriend and Nomi makes love to her girlfriend felt off to me. I understand the aim, but when at least one of the participants is unaware of the others ... well ... there might be a bit of an issue there. (I know it's only tv show, but when a tv show tries so hard to be righteous, and then has a person unknowingly take part in a massive gangbang, then I feel it's missing something.)

This follows into the slapstick scene where Wolfgang's gets to bang his tinder hookup in front of Kala as she tries (and fails) to make love to her husband.

Also it's treatment of Kenyans ... especially the scene where several people stay on Capheus' bus... isn't the best. Now I've never been to Kenya, but I can't imagine they're all as ignorant and superstitious as they're represented here.

Has anyone watched the first episode of s02 yet who can tell me if I can skip that Crimbo special that I couldn't sit through?

First Episode had some YUHS! moments in it! :)

The special connects some dots between season 1 and 2. It also had me prepared for one of the cast being replaced. I remember that threw me for the special. Not here though.

You can probably get away without it. I think it felt like some stuff from it was taken for granted but that maybe they added some "take this for granted" moments as shortcuts.

Alright, done. My first reaction is to go to wiki and see has it been cancelled or something..
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sense8
Hmmm looks like it's not set in stone:
On March 2, 2017, Deadline reported that Netflix was in the process of renewing the lapsed contracts of the series' eight leading actors, to keep them available until June of the same year, suggesting that a positive decision to renew Sense8 for a third season before that time passes is highly possible.[56]

[56]Nellie Andreeva (March 2, 2017). "'Sense8': Netflix Reassembling Cast After Options Had Expired, Raising Prospects For Season 3". Deadline.com. Penske Media Corporation. Archived from the original on March 2, 2017. Retrieved March 2, 2017.

Felt like they were cramming in as much as they could. It had moments though and developed on the first season and the special. I'd give top performance and Directing to Suns (Doona Bae) story.

    The ending
was kinda cool as you'd expect from The Wachowskis but again.. woah slow down there folks, where's this coming from. Was kinda the first time I felt the core story being hit by the cramming.

Surprised there's been so little discussion about Season 2 here. I think this is one of the best shows currently being made. I love all the characters, especially Nomi and Wolfgang.

Didn't realise Season 2 was out, I completely forgot to check the release date! Will try to watch it asap.

Saving it and the leftovers for a holiday binge over the summer

Special mention to Kala and Wolfgang..

Pacing myself through it this time out, as I watched season 1 in 2 days. The withdrawal was something else.

I'm up to episode 8 but it's not drawing me in. I've had to restart episodes and tonight I just gave up on episode 8.

It seems really slow and not capturing my attention. I feel a lot of the scenes aren't moving the story forward.

    Anyone else struggling?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

It doesn't really till the end.

    It's kinda all a bunch of not-the-main-stories

I really didn't get it to this show, however it's cancellation over Fuller House is strange.

Sense8 is an extremely expensive show to film as they film on location all over the world. Lots of outdoor shots, lots of crowd scenes, by the nature of the premise, they often have one incident that involves all 8 characters being in 7 or 8 different locations around the world just for 2 or 3 minutes of television (the party/orgy scenes). The cast is massive, because most of the Sensates have packed lives with several characters each brings to the story, especially Almanita, Hernando and Dani who tend to participate in all the group scenes. And additionally there are the other clusters and recurring villains.

Fuller House is a sitcom, I haven't seen it but I remember that the original Full House series episodes almost all occurred in the house on 4 to 5 permanent sets with occasional small studio scenes and very, very rare outdoor scenes. Each episode was padded out with stock shots of San Francisco and outside of the main cast of 3 men and 3 girls, there were only one or two recurring characters and a handful of minor characters who would show up in each episode. Outside of reality tv, it's about as cheap as television comes.

Clearly Fuller House is cheaper to make, but they shouldn't bother. That coupled with The Ranch.

Also how much green screening is done on Sence8?

None, Sense8 is all filmed on location and with all cast members on set.

And with most cast members having to go to each of the international sets at some point...

It's not just cast members. They have to have full crews in each international location. The post-production staff would be larger than normal with scenes coming in from all over the world. The continuity and editing alone would take more work and skill than most shows, to make the back and forth movements of the different sensates, who may be in 2, 3, 4 locations while having one discussion, flow seamlessly. So that's a lot of extra time and expense before you even start on the vfx which are intense at times. Sense8 has to be one of, if not the, most geographically ambitious tv series ever made and I think it cost about $9million an episode. And obviously Netflix didn't believe that it was enough of a draw to subscribers to justify that kind of cost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭adelcrowsmel

But surely with all the 8 characters being in the one location at the end of season 2 and the storyline looking like it was going to require them to be together - the next season would/should have been the cheapest of all to make?!

    Liked the show.

It felt a bit preachy at times though.

I'm ok with it finishing up now.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,184 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Nothing wrong with the first few episodes, just a bit unmemorable. The last 4 episodes or so kicked it up a notch but that could be the binge watch.

Wow. Now that was a finale. Felt more like a movie as it’s two and a half hours long but was a great way to end the series

Epic great finish to the show

Bug what a character. Genuine laugh out loud moments stunning action sequences. We need more TV like this

How the hell can a cancelled Netflix series have real squibs, for gun fights, and not multi million euro budgeted films??

That was EPIC, loved every minute of it.

A fantastic ending to what I really would call a ground breaking series.

    Well done to Netflix.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,916 ✭✭✭✭iguana

That was just amazing. A perfect ending. Some of it did feel rushed (not seeing Hernando and Danni learning about sensates, Sun's exoneration, Rajan's sheepishly happy acceptance of Wolfgang, etc) and there were unfinished plot lines I'd have loved to have seen (Capheus' political campaign in particular) so I'm sorry we didn't get to see it all play out more naturally over 2 or 3 more seasons. But understanding the time constraint made all of that necessary and what we did get more than made up for what we missed. I loved every minute of it and I'm so happy they went with an unashamed happy ending full of love and celebration instead of taking up time with angst and tragedy.

It was such an imaginative high concept series and it was pulled off with such style and absolutely amazing effects and continuity work. I get why some people never made it past the first few episodes but I'm so glad I'm not one of them because this was a real high point of television.
