Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That German team are the perfect example at blowing group opposition away and then bottling it at the semifinals when it matters.

Blowing group sides away is no indicator at all
It's no indicator and yet it indicates that they'll fail at the semis? Okay then :pac:

We'll see what happens. Personally though, at this point in time I can't see anything other than a German win, and this Argentina performance is doing nothing so far to change that

    Can they hold out!Argentina I mean . . .

I have a feeling Argentina will just grind them down and get a winner at the death. Hope I'm wrong though.

Something tells me you may have been approaching this tournament with some form of agenda, call it a hunch
this WC has been especially good in that sense... Costa Rica... the fall of Spain... Mexico drawing... USA against Ghana (who knocked them out of the last 2 WCs)... And we're not even past the second round of group games yet.

Early days but so far it has probably been the best WC. since at least the 80s.

It is when you do it three or four times in a row, like Germany have in semis and finals.

2010 Lost to Spain in SF
2006 Lost to Italy in SF
2002 Lost to Brazil in Final

So last 3 World Cups they have lost 2 SF to the eventual champions and lost a final, in 2002 they were never expected to get there after struggling in qualifying.

I would not by any stretch of the imagination call it 'bottling' when the likes of England and Portugal are out there.

Maybe, but Argentina were favourites or second favourites when the tournament began, are hyped as having the greatest player of all time with everything set up for him to completely take over and Ddominate, etc etc. Iran on the other hand have no tip flight players in Europe, only a handful in the European lower leagues, and the majority are based in the Iranian league. I am just struggling to think of a bigger upset I'm recent world cups?

Have to admit they look a solid defensive unit though, Quieroz really does know how to put a stubborn team together.

I think Iran were something like 15/1 to win on paddy power before kickoff and 15/2 for the draw.

Poor again from Messi. He is lucky for his sake that he is not Ronaldo, or he would be slaughtered for today. :p

Did you read the Germany Portugal thread? No one slaughtered Ronaldo, cause the whole team were poor.
Messi gets abused on boards, just look at the bosnia game in the first half...

And also, did you miss the Costa Rica games yesterday??? They won 1-0 against Italy.

The most hard-earned draw you'll ever see. A great display of discipline. Hopefully they get the result.

Hopefully this finishes 0-0 at worst. Argentina deserve absolutely nothing. But given the football gods are cruel.. Messi 92nd minute winner and be heralded as a hero.. for beating Iran 1-0.
