Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lets imagine I want to make a shake with a scoop of protein powder, a banana, and some milk, and 4 small ice cubes.

How much milk to add to have enough to fill a standard shaker bottle like below?

The few times I have tried, I end up with about 2 and a half pints of the stuff.

Although the shake seems to have alot of excess head, which dies down after a while.

Erm..the brand of protein powder will say how much to mix, it's usually like 300 ml per 30grams of whey powder. So going on that, maybe 2 30 gram scoops with 600 ml milk. It shouldn't be that difficult to figure out!

Put everything in shaker. Add milk. Know how much milk you added. Shakify.

Which produces a ridiculous amount of head.

Maybe I leave it on too long.

Lob the contents of the shaker into the blender. Couple of seconds is all it needs. There's only a banana and a few ice cubes in it.

Why do you want to put the blended drink into a shaker? If it's already mixed you don't need to mix it any more.

To bring in car to drink on the way

Would it not be easier to just make the shake as directed with powder and milk in the shaker, and eat the banana separately?

OK. A shaker isn't really designed for transporting liquids - it's not watertight long term and has no insulation. But I guess if you're careful with it, it'll do in a pinch. If you're just using it as a container so you can drink it at your leisure while in the car and not storing it for use later though, why not just chug the thing down before you leave the house?

Generally with milk, you go with an amount that provides the appropriate level of calories/protein/whatever, not by the volume it will have after it's been prepared. If the blender is really increasing the volume that much, I wouldn't bother with it as it just means you're drinking loads of air. I'd go with Zymurgist on this one. Mix the shake up, drink it and eat the banana separate. If you're in such a bid rush this would be much quicker as you won't have to get out the blender.
