Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I always said Maths was a waste of time.

All it showed was the probability of getting a certain team based on the criteria. The probability of each team getting the most likely opponent would be really low. In fact, the probability of each team not getting the most likely opponent is higher.

    Real were extremely lucky tonight

Good to see Huntelaar doing well with Schalke, in which he has been doing for the last few seasons. After being treated fairly badly by Madrid and Milan, and never really given a proper chance at either, it seemed he was near destined to fade in obscurity. But he got his career back on track and has been on an upward trajectory ever since. To think, when he and Suarez were at Ajax, it was he who was hailed for great things. Still, one of the deadliest poachers about, and given half a chance is clinical.

As for the game, Schalke will be gutted. Should have won over the two legs and were very unlucky, but brilliant all the same. Goes to show that Madrid really do have a soft underbelly when you put it up to them, and are very beatable. Dortmund had them on the ropes last year and they should have been out. Ronaldo was once again the contradiction that he always is. Scores two, but when the game was in the melting pot faded into obscurity as usual. When 4-3 up, Schalke had a brilliant chance to give another through ball to go one and one with the goalie, but your man pulled it back and fcuked it up. All in all, a great game, and Schalke will be kicking themselves for a long time to come. Real really got out of jail on this one

I admire your ability to see the negatives in that display from Ronaldo. Your determination is remarkable.

I have to agree (urgh, what are these feelings inside of me!!)

You cannot blame their best attacker, and scorer of two goals, for the failings of the defence and keeper (and coach). He is genuinely trying his best, but is not being supported - Bale, Isco and Kroos all failing to share the load.

Very few on the Madrid team played well bar Ronaldo and Benzema. Modric did well when he came on but, not to take away from a excellent performance by Schalke, they seemed to be so disorganised.

Greatly poised tie in Madrid, Atletico 1-0 up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,882 ✭✭✭✭klose

Into extra time in Madrid, not the greatest of games.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

I've thought it was an entertaining game.

Somewhat of a Chelsea-PSG lite game. Lots of fouls and diving, but without so much of the fighting. Not a lot of goalmouth activity but two different approaches. Leverkusen calm and controlled with no goal threat and Atletico all action, but no goal threat.

A neutral would prefer Atletico to go through though, Leverkusen look limited if they were to face the big guns.

This penalty shoot out has everything, terrible penalties, excellent penalties and a good save.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,406 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

    Superb 5th penalty from Torres

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,754 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Terrible penalty for Leverkusen sends Atletico through.

Some bad penalties there. Probably good for the competition that Athletico go through.

Some proper **** penos there. No excuse for putting a peno over, nevermind 3 of them.

Some shocking pens there. Gotta at least hit the target.

Toprak with the worst penalty, but delighted the shots down the middle missed, especially the one the keeper saved

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

It was nice to see a keeper not dive and just stop the pen that was put down the middle.

I really wish more keepers would just stand still like that.

Sad to see how far Dortmund have fallen. They tried their pressing game tonight but simply did not have the quality to make it effective and looked clueless in their attempts to open the Juve defence.

    Masterful performance by Juve.

Porto aren't bad this year won't be an easy tie for anyone and wouldn't be surprised if they end up in semis. Monaco are the team everyone wants.

Shouting for Juventus from here. Love to see them win it for the year that is in it.

Good chance to get to semi.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Well Atletico have beaten Real 4 times this season humping them 4-0 last time. They also knocked them out of the CDR and won the super cup against them. So clearly Real are 100% definitely going through this time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,475 ✭✭✭KaiserGunner

Hoping that Atletico Madrid win it from here on in, to make up for last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,057 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Oh interesting, I'd say they are sh1tting themselves at the Bernabeu.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Barca v PSG should be an interesting one to watch too.

I would expect Bayern and Juve to progress from their two ties

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,406 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Delighted Juve got Monaco. Hopefully they can progress and get home in the second leg whatever their semi final is. Would love to see an Italian side with a baying full house playing for a final berth again.

How much of a blow is it that Pogba is out of the tie?
