Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The science of energy-burning in the body

I'm interested in learning about the science of how exactly energy is used by the body, which different sources within the body are used as energy and at exactly what stages of exertion are the different sources used.

I've tried quite a few times to find a decent source for this on the web, but so far the results I've found seem to swing between either vapid bro science or else PhD-level articles. (There may be slight exaggeration there.)

I wasn't sure which forum to post this in but I'm just hoping there's someone here who's successfully educated themselves on the science of energy use within the body, where I have so far failed! Thanks!

I haven't used it myself, but MIT has open course material on lots of stuff, including "chemistry of sports" .

I know you said you don't want to get too sciency, but even just first-year biochemistry stuff could give you a pretty good insight (you could either buy a biochem book or order one in from your local library). Of course you'd still be looking for another source of info in order to relate basic energy consumption in the body to the particular effects of different sports/exertion levels, but I'd have no clue about that myself.

Luke McDonald's stuff is good for that.
