Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thought I might as well nab it, can never have too many boxed Gamecubes.

Opened it up and found this.

Opened that up and then found this

Not retro game related, but definitely retro :)
Arrived from Germany yesterday, guy there does good work restoring and upgrading these(late 70's early 80's Euro Philips tape decks have notorious bad tape heads) as well as replacing some internal bits with new old stock parts.

Steve if that's the kinda stuff that you like I recommend that you check out the following YouTube channel:

    https://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan

He does reviews of various obsolete hardware and does his own restores.

He also goes into mad detail about old recording formats and stuff like that.

Yeah I know his channel. He put me on to a company in the UK that sells high quality cassette tapes at non insane prices.

Actually the stuff recorded on high quality silver tape would be fairly indistinguishable to CDs.

Well I didn't get this to play Now That's What I Call Music! 28 :)
It works as normal with ferric and chromium tapes, but has been modified to work very well with metal tapes, for reasons and things, and stuff.

Anyone ever see Teac reel to reel cassette tapes?

Bit of a novelty item but fun, they're spoolable mini reel to reels held in a cassette box.

The Techmoan channel is great indeed, a few years back I picked up this Marantz Field recorder for chea complete with leather case:

    marantz-pmd-222.jpg

Funnily enough its more minty than th examples on google images, the only short coming is that it records in Mono.

If a tape deck is a retro get, that means I got something in the past few months - a broken (and now fixed) CLD-D515 Pioneer laserdisc player!

I had ordered up a few laserdiscs because the disc covers are nearly good enough to have in frames on the wall, but then had a 'wait, I can't play these when I'm sure someone will ask if I have a player' moment. To adverts I went and found a broken one. A new rectifier bridge + capacitor ordered/replaced and BAM! Working player :) always nice when I don't break something more than when I got it

    Disc on hand;
    Alien
    Ghostbusters
    Back To The Future
    Blues Brothers
    Hunt For The Red October
