Serge Aurier has already signed by the looks of things :D

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serge_Aurier
He signed a five year deal with liverpool on the 10th July 2014 which will earn him 100,000 dunkin donuts a week aswell as a free ride to melwood on ian ayre's Harley Davidson

    Sounds like a sweet deal.

Thing is we tried to sign Alexis Sanchez, who is definitely at the upper end of the scale in terms of who we could attract (and we couldn't attract him!).

I'm not sure what big names are out there that want to come here that we are missing out on.

I know plenty want Griezmann, and yes, he does look like a very good player, likewise Shaqiri. But I wouldn't call either "big" names and I don't think either are a) a patch on what we are losing (Suarez) or b) much better than what we have in Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho. (not saying neither wouldn't be automatic starters here, of course they probably would, but I don't see them as no-brainer type signings that we have to make.

Griezmann & Shaqiri both have 4-5 seasons of professional football under their belt and both have champions league experience neither of which Markovic has. This does worry me but I sincerely hope Markovic can make me eat my words because he does look like a greater risk than Griezmann or Shaqiri..

Would be absolutely fantastic if the club made a move for someone like Marco Reus. Guaranteed goals from a wide position.

Long term I think Markovic will play more centrally. Would also prefer to see Lallana playing as one of 3 central midfielders alongside Gerrard and possibly a more robust box to box midfielder (possibly Can).

    Mignolet

    Aurier
    Lovren
    Sakho
    Moreno

    Gerrard
    Lallana
    Can

    Markovic
    Reus

    Sturridge

The above team is fantasy stuff of course, but has great balance to it.

If Reus leaves Dortmund it would be for Barca/Real/Bayern/City(unfortunately)/Chelsea(unfortunately). He won't be playing for Liverpool, so there is no point pining after players like that

Reus is the calibre of player we should be shooting for if we are looking to spend the Suarez money wisely.

£35million should be dangled in front of Dortmund.

Whilst we are mentioning names, i'm going to through a few British names out there, excellent youngish additions to our squad.

    Karl Darlow (Nottingham Forest Keeper)
Jamaal Lascelles (Nottingham Forest centre back) - Top prospect
    Kieran Trippier (Burnely right full)

2 of these players (Lascelles and Trippier) are capable of making the jump to play not only in the premier league, but also for a side in the top 5. Darlow is an excellent keeper and would provide perfect cover and competition for Mignolet.

Barca refuse to pay over £50m now that the ban is upheld.

John Henry asks what they're smoking.

Suarez stays. We win the league.

May as well have Messi as Reus, but it's fairly viable other than that.

I'd have Henderson ahead of all three of those midfielders for the job he does though. Not sure if it's a future team or one for the coming season, either Gerrard or Can would be out depending on which.

    So for now:

    Gerrard
    --Henderson
    Lallana

In 1-2 years (additional signings notwithstanding):

    Can
    --Henderson
    Lallana

Hopefully we can push on and add some top top players but if Can delivers and Henderson and Lallana keep advancing as they are it could be a very strong side.

Hate these "fantasy" lineups, but in fairness I do like the look of that XI. Really good balance in midfield, the only downside being Gerrard really who I don't think is disciplined enough week in week out for that role. Still does a good job though, but in Europe we will need more.

Can and Lallana playing either side is intriguing, I think Can is going to pleasantly surprise alot of people, he has all the tools to be a superstar and has a high ceiling in terms of development.

I have also mentioned Reus, and although I'd LOVE to see it I don't think it will materialise unfortunately.

Yeah, talk of pandas and the like > complete and utter fantasy over Reus.

And to think, I was gullible in thinking Liverpool fans here at least wouldn't be so silly to suggest him like Arsenal and Man U fans have been doing in the past.

Bony is a good player but I find it hard to see where he fits in at Liverpool. He can't really play as a wide forward so he can only really be played right up front through the centre. Lambert kinda fills his role already even though Bony is younger and better. Sturridge wants to play through the centre so do you play him and Bony together? Would have thought Rodgers would have been looking more for a versatile attacker who can play up front but out wide as part of a front 3 as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,132 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I can see a lot of rotation with the starting midfield and forwards.

The bench will be a lot stronger this season which can only be a good thing.

Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Lallana, Can, + probably 2 more.

Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge, Markovic, Lambert + two more.

There is a lot of legs and speed there.

Time to sort out a solid stable back 5 now.

To echo the sentiments of others, I do rate Bony, I thought he was quality last season, but I just don't see how he fits in to our squad at the moment. Presumably Rodgers will play with one main striker and that'll be Sturridge with Lambert as back up. I would have thought we'd be looking for a more flexible WF type player.

I do like how the squad is shaping up at the moment, will be so nice to have a bit of quality in reserve next season, or even being able to mix up the team depending on opponents, last season the team pretty much picked itself week in week out, I look forward to Rodgers hopefully giving a few tactical masterclasses next season as he will have more tools to be able to do so.

Top-4 teams need players of Bony's calibre as back-up. It's not really enough to go into a season competing on 4 fronts with Sturridge, Lambert, Sterling and Aspas as our centre-forward options.

This is what we're competing with, with the likelihood that Chelsea and Arsenal will further strengthen up-front over the summer:

    City: Aguero, Negredo, Dzeko, Jovetic
    Chelsea: Costa, Torres, Ba
    Arsenal: Giroud, Podolski, Walcott
    United: RVP, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck

I think Bony would be a great addition. Proven goalscorer, since he broke into regular first team action he's got 20+ goals per season.
I can only think that with the service that our midfield may offer that that tally would increase with us.
He's also used to faced paced passing attacking play with Swansea.

Much of muchness between Hernandes and Lambert but Welbeck is better than Borini comfortably.

Ba and Torres? Thought that was a no brainer tbh. Torres is as good as a Championship player at this stage and Ba's been shíte since he left Newcastle, if he could recapture his old form I wouldn't be saying this.

Lambert is better than Podolski imo, as good as Giroud. In fairness Walcott is better than all of them besides Sturridge.

I wouldn't swap the lot we have for any of the other four's strikers besides City.
