    Might this be what you are thinking of -- the Rover P6BS? It's a 1967 car with a mid-engine 3.5L V8. It's a factory car, not one built by outside coach builders as several two-door P5 and P6 cars were. I think Rover built two or three test models of two door P6 saloons in-house, one at least of which was a convertible.

    There was a prototype called the Lynx that was built around 1977. It was built as a Stag replacement but never got past two prototypes

    is 3.8 a typo or did you actually mean 3.8?.... 3.5 V8 was uprated for the Range Rover at some stage , although I'd say it had three doors
