Restaurant in NYC

I was debating whether to put this in the travel thread but I think it may be better suited here.

I am looking for a top class restaurant to dine in one night on our honeymoon in New York. I have been doing a bit of searching and 11 Park Madison comes up quite a bit but after doing a bit of research I thought it might be a bit too gimmicky and not exactly what we are looking for.

Per se looks amazing but I think it might just be out of our price range for the evening tasting menu. Le Bernardin specialises in seafood and I think I would prefer a mix of fish and meat.

Colicchio & Sons looks nice but have heard very little about this other than its high ranking on trip advisor.

Anybody have any recommendations on the above or other similar places?

By the way it does not necessarily have to be Michelin starred but we would like to do a tasting menu. Maybe to give you an idea of what kind of places we like out of all the ‘top’ restaurants in Dublin we have eaten in the Michelin starred ones have often disappointed us slightly (haven’t eaten in Guilbald’s or Thortons though). However we absolutely loved the Greenhouse and my girlfriend loved Nevin Maguire’s (which I also really liked).

We are already doing a few food tours and going to eat in a few more ‘regular’ places in NYC in Chinatown, the Village etc. I am only looking recommendations for somewhere where we can spoil ourselves for one night.

    Cheers in advance

I seem to be in the minority but I didn't particularly like Le Bernardin.

Daniel, on the other hand, was fantastic. (this was on my honeymoon)

You seem to have ruled out Eleven Madison Park. I haven't been there, but those I know who have been, have loved it. However, I suppose it is somewhat gimmicky.

Haven't been to Per Se but that's owned by the chef of The French Laundry, and constantly gets great reviews. However, their tasting menu is a lot more expensive than Le Bernardin or Daniel.

Nobu in Soho is my favourite. It's not all sushi either. They also have a tasting menu.

I ate in Gilt a couple of years ago and the tasing menu was fantastic, can't find the website now though.

I sent my parents to Gotham last year and they were very impressed. Not sure if they do a tasting menu.

Gotham does look very nice but they don't seem to have a tasting menu.

Daniel was also on my list my I counted it out due to price. Think it is just that bit more expensive than Le bernardin and 11 Park Madison.

I will review again though. Thanks to both poster for suggestions

I'd love to try Colicchio & Sons because I watch Top Chef obsessively and I just want to try Tom Colicchio's food. But I'd be very, very happy to eat in any of the places you listed. Sadly, I can't recommend anywhere from personal experience, but I'll keep my eye on this thread and we might have a mini-moon in NYC next year.

Oh didn't realise that Colicchio & Sons had a celebrity chef. Hopefully he is more Michael Roux Jnr than Gordon Ramsey.

I had another look at Daniel there and was not as expensive as I first thought (i.e not Per Se levels) so I think that is back in the mix.

One other place that has popped up on a few searches is Gramercy Tavern.

My choice might be ruled by where I can get a reservation.

Forget all that fancy racket, get down to blue smoke near wall street, the best bbq food ever.

we are doing loads of the cheaper and more 'non fancy' stuff food wise but we just wanted to get dressed up and go a bits nuts one night. If you can't do it on your honeymoon when can you.

Last time I was in New York was a couple of years ago, and I tried a lot of places but my favourite was Marea http://www.marea-nyc.com

I also heard good things about Torrisi's Italian Specialities.

Found eating out in NY very expensive in relation to the quality I was getting. Or rather, that was Manhattan. Queens on the other hand! Great eating and at the right price
