Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Joey Barton also stubbed a cigar out in a youth team players eye. I mean just think about that.

Right, because I saw that happen.

The thing is I don't think Suarez is violent. He just has a weird instinctive habit of lashing out with a bite. Now way was he thinking at all then.

But then he seems to enjoy being the bad guy. He managed to be the bad guy of the last World Cup too and it was due to his celebrations rather than the handball. Then there's the racist thing and the diving.

Liverpool have a right to feel totally hard done by but the player probably doesn't.

If Uruguay feel hard done by, they should talk to Ghana.

So, since he is denying he meant to do it deliberately, instead of just manning up and accepting what he did and genuinely apologising and showing he is ready to be honest with the world and seek help for his clear mental issues, can FIFA extend the ban?

This martyr act wore thin a long, long time ago.

No, the ban was independent of him apologising or not. More opportunities for moral outrage though.

You missed the point, more then likely deliberately.

Do you think that if he had come out straight away, owned up to it and apologized while showing he was taking steps to curb the behaviour they would have still banned him for four months?

Maybe they would, but his bull**** has made it pretty hard for FIFA to show any sort of sympathy to his position really.

I would wager if he had thrown himself at the mercy and accepted his wrong doings he would have received a lighter sentence, if he gets it reduced on appeal that would surely strengthen that argument

One of the reporters on the Liverpool Echo has suggested the fact he showed no remorse was one of the reasons the ban was so long.

He's either completely deluded or just not too bright. Hard to know sometimes. I figure he must not be too bright. No one with any common sense would react the way he has to these various incidents.

My feeling is that he will be a Barca player next season, perhaps they can manage him better.

The defence is pretty ridiculous, saying he lost his balance and fell on to Chellini with his teeth?!

Maybe Suarez took his cue from these supporters?

Does it matter if you saw it?!? We know it happened... We also all saw what happened with Dabo. What does it matter of it was in training or not?!? I'm not defending suarezs actions but comments like you made is the kind of vilification I'd expect from the sun. He did something wrong and has been punished but to think it's on the same level as some of bartons actions is mental.

He wasn't making anything up, he was expressing what he thinks Suarez should of got and why.

    He did make it up.
Why 6 months? Why not 7 months?
What was his proposed ban based on?

It's bound to have some impact but difficult to assess how much. The biting becomes a serious risk factor when assessing what he brings to a club. Another bite and we could be talking of a year ban or even longer

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭Slicemeister

Why not just give him the soother he so craves? End the biting once and for all.Just look at his goal celebration!

Funny a united fan is first to reply, and even funnier interpretation, I guess you see what you want to.

Be a little bizarre to vow against an accident ever happening again, wouldn't it?

It's bizarre to call it a collision, if it's poorly translated then fair enough. It's better than the last mess of a statement anyway.

I'm not sure how well that's been translated, but it seems to be somewhat remorseful, at least.

I still think Cheillini is owes him one on the jaw, but at least it's a step in dropping that innocent buzz he was trying to be on, as pushed by Uruguay, I'm sure. Either he came to this himself or someone with sense had a word with him.

Or as some have said, Barca wanted him to say sorry!

Why is it funny? Did you want me to wait around until the Liverpool fans had their say first?
    Silly comment.

    Ed Malyon ‏@eaamalyon 15m
Luis Suarez issues apology to Giorgio Chiellini (I understand this is by Barcelona's request)

    Works for the mirror apparently.

I actually thought I was in the Liverpool thread tbh, so that added to my surprise about a Utd fan being so quick off the mark, still think it's a bizarre interpretation.

Reading it again, the bullet points are making me laugh.

Its like he was told, "Here, Luis, you have three things you need to address in this apology", and he got to the end of his statement and realised he hadn't done any of them, so just lobbed in the bullet point list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

I think that's everything wrapped up now. Well done to all involved.

I'll be impressed if someone doesn't pretend to be bitten by him next season mid-game, wherever he plays. Although, I'd probably be equally impressed if he doesn't actually bite anyone.

An apology after denying it happened waters down the effect of it considerably. Still should and end to a car crash situation.

he has apologised for his teeth hitting Chiellini as they tangled.

he has not admitted biting him intentionally, which is what he did.

he is still protesting innocence in reality, and is putting it down as a terrible mistake.

I just re-read it there, you're right, he admits to, and apologizes for, a collision that results in the physical effects of a bite.

It's not an apology if it's based on an excuse.
