Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Perfect peno. Hard to see another twist in this. Gutted for Mexico, they deserved the win today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

idiotic to put your foot there if you're Marquez.

    but Robben dived over it.

    so soft.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

The Mexican's should kick lumps out of Robben in the tunnel after this. He's cheated them out of the World Cup IMO.

And the lesson here kids, is keep diving and eventually you'll get your reward.

Harsh ending, but Mexico has been toeing the line all game with their tackles in the box.

Why? Cause he didn't save that peno? Still had a great tournament and put himself in the shop window.

Ah hardly nailed on. Marquez put his foot there and Robben took advantage of it, there wasn't a trip there at all really.

Yes that's right, Robben's a diver so let's blame the entire team.

Not blatant at all. The defender didn't get any touch on the ball, but he got precious little contact on Robben either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,769 ✭✭✭dmc17

Robben made the most of that. Very cruel stuff.

He makes the most of everything. Every time he falls, he falls from about five feet in the air. It's embarrassing really

i agree he really has played well

Any credit to Van Gaal for preserving his team's energy in the first half? Helped Robben no doubt and Mexico weren't really concentrating for the first goal - no marking at all!

This dutch side has mental strength to spare. Not great to watch but it will take something extraordinary to beat them.

Yeah but in this game, he was fouled twice in the box and didnt do his usual back spasm swan dives.

Guess the lesson here is, diving is better than honesty.

Robben shouldn't be let near a stadium for four months after his antics today. Think of the children ffs

Robben is the reason I dislike this Dutch side.

One of the most dislikeable characters playing the game.

Jaysis lads....calm down....the defender should never have given the opportunity like that.

Robben did the right thing to win the game.

This faux outrage is pathetic in my opinion.

Sickened for Mexico. Happy for Dirk though.

Don't really agree with the Robben hate for that penalty. I don't like him at all but what do you expect at that stage of a World Cup knockout game? Most players would have done the same.

Really harsh on Mexico. The Dutch are far from unstoppable and I think better teams will punish them.

Another entertaining game in a great world cup.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Draw/Holland @4/1 with Paddy Power will be my bet for this game.

Stupidly stuck a few quid on Depay anytime scorer before looking at the lineups. D'oh.

My €2.50 bet comes off!! I'm rich I tells ya! RICH!! Moderately priced Ribena on me lads.

Awh, unlucky Mexico. I thought they deserved it overall. Still happy enough to see Holland go through. They were poor today but I hope that was just the heat and normal service is resumed in the QF.

also, the lack of added on time was a joke there.

between the drinks break and the penalty, as well as all the other time there's no way 6 and a half minutes was enough.

time added on has been an issue all tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

Holland deserved it over the 90 minutes.

No it won't. They were incredibly lucky today IMO.

They don't look great at the back tbh and the Goalie looks dodgy.

I reckon the Germans or French would beat them handily enough.

Jim Beglin is absolutely detestable as a commentator. He can't help but slate the Dutch for everything and anything they do.

Honestly I think Mexico have been deplorable in their behaviour. Obviously Robben was bad for simulation at some points but there were so many fouls on him which were totally ignored. People seem to let the whining, diving, hacking and general cynical behaviour slide when it comes to these underdog teams, but condemn others for doing far less.

Missed that, horrible time for Arnold to want to take his first piss in seven years.

Still think this Dutch team is very ordinary. But they're getting the job done, you have to credit them with that.

He did in fairness and he should be snapped up.

But it's a fickle game. Losing 2 - 1 is the bottom line.

Ugh the Dutch didn't deserve that. Nor did the Mexicans. Should have been extra time.

Mexico had a run in on goal that was called offside. But no replay was showed. Why not?

Mexico shot themselves in the foot with how much they retreated into their shells.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

    Mexico threw that away.

That's what I suspected in the first half. Once Mexico scored, the Dutch really stepped up their energy levels.

I was before that penalty- I have them in a sweepstakes at work!

But winning like that is cruel for Mexico. :/
