Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

IS there anyone who isn't Greek cheering them on tonight?

Everyone seems to want CR to win, me too cos I never like Greece's attitude in tournament football.

It's actually been more enjoyable than the start of the Netherlands v Mexico game so far.

I Hope Greece win but more so because i like Samaras and the stuff he done for that young lad James Beatty this year was incredible, a top bloke!

Costa Rica are the underdog story of the tournament. Who doesn't love a good underdog. G'wan Costa Rica!!

Me too. This story totally changed my mind about Greece. We'll all be thinking of little Jay if Samarus scores!

Surely he had to book Karagounis for that?

The clip of the little lad reacting to Samaras scoring the penalty was deadly .

True. Costa Rica would be the underdog in a head to head there though. Imagine that for a World Cup final :pac:

    Ticos need to score first.

Unsurprising that the game is as tight as it is. Greece are content to not commit many men forward, meaning Costa Rica's counter attacking tactics aren't half as effective. The sooner Costa Rica score the better.

This will rival Iran v Nigeria for worst game in the tournament.

Its a close second, judging by the game so far :p

Greece looking the more dangerous to be honest.

    Very boring so far.

I think it says more about people only watching the big teams than the game quality to be honest.

Funny how fashionable it is to say that any game Greece are involved in is boring. The game so far is far from the worst and Greece are actually looking the more threatening of the two, especially on the counter.

    I'm bored.

How did that not go in? Super save.

Super cross. Decent save by the keeper.

    Keeper did very well there.

Nice bit of play there and a great save from the CR keeper to get a leg to it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 661 ✭✭✭derm0j073

Super cross , well saved .

Top save. Rican defence looks poor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 677 ✭✭✭vidor

Greece playing some really tidy football here.

I was gonna just take out a deck of cards... Fair play to Charlie Bird for leaving RTE to go manage the Greeks all the same..

Greece not playing too badly. Costa Rica are shaky defensively.

Costa Ricans need to change things up, getting no joy up front and the Greeks look like they could nick a goal any time they get in around the box

    Good open game of football.
Both teams trying to win it rather than playing for penalties.

Greece look most likely to open the scoring, Costa Rica have been exposed a couple of times at the back already.

Just looking at Greece's qualifying record. They scored 12 goals and conceded 4 in a group that included Latvia, Lithuania and Liechtenstein. They won 5 games 1-0!

Sam Alardyce must get hard at numbers like those.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

There is no way the second half can be as poor as that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,981 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Well that was a rough half of football to watch. Was very tempted at one stage to lie down on the couch and have a nap.

Greece looking the better side for me but Costa Rica look more likely to make something happen when they do get forward. I think there was only one real attempt on goal in that half but not sure.

Hope it picks up in the second half.

The BBC minute by minute is probably the most entertaining thing about this game.
Costa Rica fans have been watching the game on a big screen in their capital city, San Jose.

    Did they know the way?

    Yes, because they live there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,684 ✭✭✭FatherTed

Greece had a fairly handy qualifying group:
    Bosnia and Herzegovina 10 8 1 1 30 6 +24 25
    Greece 10 8 1 1 12 4 +8 25
    Slovakia 10 3 4 3 11 10 +1 13
    Lithuania 10 3 2 5 9 11 −2 11
    Latvia 10 2 2 6 10 20 −10 8
    Liechtenstein 10 0 2 8 4 25 −21 2

They beat Romania in the playoff. Are we much worse than Greece?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,812 ✭✭✭thelad95

Awful stuff. Costa Rica not handling the 'favourites' tag well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭Boom__Boom

Will anyone in the world be surprised if this goes to extra-time and then on to penalties?
