Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Easy win for ze Germans.

This is the Algerian's chance to get revenge for '82, where they beat West Germany but did not qualify for the 2nd round due to the "arrangement" between West Germany and Austria

going to bump this. I cant see past a Germany win, Algeria are possibly the weakest team in the last 16 and the germans certainly wont want to go to extra time and with the players they have they really shouldnt have to and I can see it being a typical clinical german performance...

Germany: Neuer - Mustafi, Mertesacker, Boateng, Höwedes - Lahm (C), Schweinsteiger - Özil, Kroos, Götze - Müller
Algeria: Mbolhi, Ghoulam, Belkalem, Halliche, Lacen, Feghouli, Slimani, Soudani, Taider, Mandi and Mostefa

    I hope Algeria beat them.

Thought he might have moved lahm to rb to allow boateng to play cb alongside mert but he is keeping lahm in midfield and playing mustafi cb.

    Mustafi playing rb.

I hope the Germans take revenge for 1982 when those sneaky arabs ambushed West Germany and forced them to make a pragmatic arrangement with the Ösis.

I think the Germans win it easily enough, Algeria have talent but lack physicality imo.

Life doesn't have happy endings, 82 won't be avenged, this is going to be an efficient destruction of a second rate team by Die Mannschaft

Welcome to the big leagues Brad.

Germany to win 1-0 or maybe get 2nd late on.

Algeria have a 100% world cup finals record v Germany. 2 played, 2 won.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

Germany not that strong in the fullback positions.

Ich glaube, dass die Deutschmannschaft einen leichten Sieg heute abend besorgen wird, aber man niemals wissen kann....

Is that Bradley on the panel tonight?

Looking forward to seeing more bearded hotties amongst the Algerian contingent.

    Brad Friedel.

Surprised how Loew plays the back line. At times he played 4 central defenders. Doesn't seem to mind either that Hoewedes is a brick going forward. All hangs on our possession/midfield.

Rooting for Algeria here. Know a good few here locally, sound skins. Head says Germany.

Regarding Ramadan, there is an exception in Islam for when people are travelling (they can make it up at the end), and sports people usually use that to get out it. Ozil has confirmed he is not doing it this year; Algeria haven't confirmed it one way or another.

They never believed Algeria would win in 82 either probably. Upsets happen. Some have happened in this world cup. Algeria were in hard luck against Belgium tbf to them

    3-0 Germany.

    Would love an upset.

The Algerian jerseys are almost the same colour as the pitch!

I would have been rooting for the Algerians, but after witnessing the robbing of the poor Nigerian team. I think the Germans might be the best team to wipe out the cheating French. My bottom line, as long as the winner can send the French home I'm happy.

    Muller looks about 40.

Up to the ref to spot these things to be fair. Woeful refereeing not to spot Evra or send off Matuidi

He reminds me of Sensei John Kreese of the Cobra Kai club in the Karate Kid

I expect Germany to win this but not as easy as many posters here.

Algeria were impressive in their group

Think Slimani should have lobbed him instead of trying to take it round him.

If he tapped the ball ahead of him and went down could have done a Robben...

    Incredible tackle by Mert.

Germans looking very poor at the back

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,881 ✭✭✭TimeToShine

This German team are very fallible and Algeria look hungry. If they nick the first it'll be a great game.

What a waste by the Algerians there.

I know I'll sound like Ray Houghton, but he should have crossed it for that last Algerian chance.
