Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Not when he scored.

Didn't even have the balls to take it on first time, passed it sideways.

    Jesus wept.

Fair play to Algeria. They gave absolutely everything. That's why Ive loved this world cup more than anything. So called 'also rans' that came over and asked the questions. Surrender just not in their vocabulary. We associate modern day football with prima donnas and whingers but this world cup has seen an abundance of national pride and a willingness for the so called weaker nations to stick two fingers up at the football establishment who continue to choke the game

    Too much feels :(

Ah I thought just for a second that header would loop over Neuer for 2-2. What could have been. :(

    Not sure if serious.

He passed to a guy with the goal at his mercy, it was 100% the right option. Then he showed good composure to put it away.

    How long before France surrender?

Love that Algerian coach. A Bosnian who kicked every ball for them on the sideline. Hope he gets a good job out of this down the line. The premier league could do with a character like him

Had the brains to pass to a better placed player

France v Germany has its own heat. Including the odd smashed jaw.

Passed to a better placed player as you should do.
When he couldn't score Ozil said "feck you i'll do it meself" and showed him how.

Probably the best match of the cup, plus that of goalkeeping. as energizing as a double espresso

Captain No is struggling without the Ignorance Twins in the studio to back him up, had no comeback as to why he thought it was not an intentional shot for Scourie beyond "no" based on his Premier League play and obviously nothing from his time in Germany.

Rte have done well with Hamann and Friedel. Too very good analysts. I couldnt understand Ardilles when he was on. Sadlier and Cunningham are poor enough. Cunningham disagrees with everyone and Sadlier isnt as good as he thinks he is. Brady as good as ever.
I like Peter Collins as a commentator. He doesnt get overly negative.

Argh. That was hard work. OMG stuff in the first half then better but still wtf? Best bit is its won. Hopefully better on Friday.

Friedel is just mopping the floor with Brady. :pac:

Doubly funny that Liam is asking Bill to write statements down, given the amount of nonsense he and the Chuckle Brothers "forget" they got wrong on an almost daily basis.

This German team has yet to impress me, but at least they won their game on merit. Unlike the French, who needed several interventions from the Ref. Poor Algeria, during that first 30 minutes when they totally outplayed and embarrassed the Germans. They had their chances to take the lead but didn't take them.:(

Anyone's world cup now. All the big boys clearly have their flaws.

If Colombia can upset Brazil then maybe......

Ozil was ****e from 70-110 tbf, but so were the players around him. Goetze however has been dump since day 1.

Think France can beat this German team - with or without the referee;)

German football is weird. You see the same thing in the Bundesliga a lot of the time, really good going forward but really poor organisation in the back four. It's like all they're interested in is pushing up and hoping for offsides. It was so easy for Algeria to split them and get chances. Somebody is going to destroy them in this tournament I think.

Fair play to Algeria and their manager. They were fantastically well organised and hard working, with a fair bit of skill too.

Can't help but praise good punditry, Brad and Didi were very good tonight, as Richie was earlier to the surprise of... no one, really.

I didn't see most of the match. Got in late. This is obviously a case were stats are misleading. It looked from the online match info that Germany should have throttled Algeria based on SOG, possession, corners, etc. But from reading back a few pages it seems like Algeria really took it to Germany for large stretches?

Germany largely dominated, but Algeria's forays forward were generally very fruitful (if not ultimately successful) ones.

    They did, yeah.

Most of the German shots were Kroos' long range punts.

For every post you have praising good pundity, you have about 10 complaining about that one chap you're not obviously not too fond of :p

It is, but he had solid logic behind it at least. Personally I might give the edge to Holland with Robben's form and LVGs tactical abilities to use his squad in different ways, but it doesn't stop Friedel from making a solid pain over the total strength of Germany and Frances squads being stronger. It was like he had researched into it or something! :p

And it's certainly a better call than that "the team with the best defensive record in South America, and tied best in the tournament* are headless chickens who cannot defend... erm, because" sh*te we got last night.

*Barring Belgium, who have played one game less at this point.

It's more than just one of them, the whole old boys club are useless.

And if you don't like reading about a terrible pundit being called a terrible pundit, feel free to use the ignore feature. :)
