Afternoon Tea Holders

Hi everyone,

I'm organising afternoon tea for 14 and I'd love to do a nice layout. Obviously I don't want to spend a fortune. Has anyone seen the cardboard cake stands in Ireland or used them and have an opinion?

You could make a nice centrepiece by picking up some china plates and saucers, and some little vases, in a charity shop and gluing them together to make your own unique (and possibly cheaper!) stand, like the one here (you'll have to scroll down a bit, sorry!)

Wow I never thought of home deco! They aren't too bad price wise, excellent. The last link seems to be interesting but not actually there?

There was some program on, like one of these auction programs with teams buying stuff.

One guy was buying old dinner plates and drilling holes in the middle and making cake holders like these. You can get a drill bit for glass & tiles in woodies that does the job. Can't remember what was used to hold them together, i.e. the central rod.

Dunnes! Seriously, whoever is doing their buying these days has some nifty taste. There are some very nice vintage ones. The Homewares department has loads of glass and china cake stands.

And in the Leigh Tucker party section of dunnes they have cut sets of cardboard cake holders and centerpieces. There is a ferris wheel one, and a floral one. They are possibly more for childrens party?

Also, what I've done in the past is just put a glass or ramekin upside down and put a plate on top of it. Job done.

I agree with Pwurple - Dunnes have great stuff in their homewares department - I got a gorgeous cakestand there recently

Maybe try TK Maxx too, they always seem to have the cardboard cake stands when I'm looking at the decorating stuff and sometimes have really nice other stands and good prices

Cardboard cupcake stand for 1.49 absolute bargain. I've used them for kids birthday parties and they are sturdy enough to be weighed down with cake and remain upright.
