Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi folks Im new to this forum and would appreciate abit of help. Apologies if this has been answered before. I have been invited to Stage 3 in 2 weeks time but I need some clarity around colour vision. I am colourblind. Red-Green I believe. Will this mean I will fail the medical? I cannot pass the Ishihara test. I know theres no harm in trying but making my way from Derry to Dublin for each stage to be sadly let down at the final hurdle would be disheartening. I have read on the Garda website that colour vision must be normal but Ive read other posts on here contradicting this sayin you wont be able to drive any Garda type vehicles?

    Thanks in advance

Apparently, a certain degree of colour deficiency is allowed, but I'm not sure what the case is if you're fully colour blind.

I'd give them a ring and ask

There was definitely a few slides to check for colour blindness when doing the medical. Don't know to what level you're allowed to be out. No harm checking with HRM

I failed the colour vision test, but passed the medical. How bad is your colour deficiency?

I can differentiate everday colours its just when I do the ishihara I can only do the first few plates. If u failed it did they ask u to do further tests?

I think it may stop you from driving state vehicles but i think you can still get in. I'd ring garda HQ and speak to someone in HR

No I just had to do the ishihara test but my deficiency is slight. I don't think HR will be able to tell you anymore over the phone to be honest, it's not like eyesight where you have a prescription you can quote them. I'd imagine it'd be up to the doctor on the day of the medical. Maybe book and appointment with an optician to find out the extent of your deficiency.

And yes, it means you can't drive official vehicles.
