    Hi Guys
My husband is looking for a job as an electrical / automation engineer , what are the job prospects in this role like in Calgary?

Any advice as to what steps he should take initially for this work?

    Thanks !

Hey, just saw this post now. I work as an engineer in Calgary. Your husband should easily get a job in Calgary in the Oil and Gas industry. There are a million Engineering companies in Calgary that work on all the big O&G projects up north. Loads of work for electrical/instrumentation engineers. My only bit of advice is that he gets registered with APEGA as soon as possible. It costs around $150 but you have no choice but to pay it. You see in Canada, engineering is a regulated profession, its actually illegal to call yourself an engineer if your not registered. APEGA are the Alberta engineering body. Every company hiring engineers will ask that you are registered and have an engineering number. It took me 6 months to get registered with APEGA because they asked that my University in Ireland send them my transcripts and then they had to review all the classes i took to see if I met the their standard. Took some time but once i had it, I walked into a job.
