I'd like to see Jenson do well today. Will be interesting if the Mercs split the strategy.

Glad to see McLaren go well but it pretty much guarantees a Rosberg win.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,831 ✭✭✭Peanut Butter Jelly

Holy crap. How did more people not get caught up in that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,394 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Lucky that wasn't worse and kimi looks a bit shaken up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,641 ✭✭✭andyman

Red Flag, this should be great fun!

As much as I love Kimi it seems fairly obvious that Kimi's head just isn't in it this season.

Thought a red flag on the first lap meant a reformed original grid. Typical lucky Hamilton. :P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,641 ✭✭✭andyman

Hang on, Brundle is saying drivers have to go back to their original positions? Since when was this a rule?

    Ah, understand now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,522 ✭✭✭dor83

Massa did very well not to have a big crash there, could have been much worse for both if he hadn't been so quick to react.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,199 ✭✭✭christy c

Massa seemed to be stopped on the grid and got going then

First red flag on first Lap since Monaco 2000! Wow! I remember it well!

Used to be the rule anyway, BBC reckon it's not now.

I criticise Massa a lot but he did well there to avoid a big incident.

Well done to Felipe Massa for his actions - if he had T-boned Kimi the resulting accident could have beeb catastrophic.

Hope Kimi is ok - that bump should not be there - lessons have not been learned.

What was Kimi doing there? There's going wide and then there's that!

A weekend to forget for Felipe.

Poor kimi, hope he's ok. I think it was
a bit like the crash kubica had in Canada.

This safety car only has to last a lap. No more.

  • Registered Users Posts: 621 ✭✭✭weekaizer

Pity they can't do another standing start like they used to.

    That guardrail is badly damaged,

    Update - 15 minute delay

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,831 ✭✭✭Peanut Butter Jelly

Usually we keep track of pitstops, Ted is keeping track of toilet breaks.

That will be repaired under the red flag. The race will be restarted when it is repaired. The safety car will lead them away and there is only a need for one lap under it.

Or indeed swap to spare cars - tough on Massa

Hope kimi is okay and credit to massa for avoiding something worse.

He was actually very unlucky. He locked the rears and it spun him. If he didn't lock the rears, he could have got away scot free.

In terms of the 2 hour race time limit. I presume that clock stops under red flag, does it?

I think it's 5 hours now after the debacle in Canada with 8 hours. Clock stops under red flag though, with max race time of 2 hours.

Max Chilton a very lucky man today

In a sense, yes. What officially happens is the clocks keep running and the time the race is stopped is added onto the 2 hours

Not sure why the BBC are lauding Massa for his reactions. Two drivers in front of him had to take even quicker action and were able to avoid wrecking the car. Kobayashi had to skip out in the same direction the Ferrari was travelling and got away with it. Massa, if anything, was slow.

Yea I'd say so, cause there's rain predicted for Tuesday.

    0-0.1mm of rain for 3 o'clock
    0-0.9mm of rain for 4 o'clock

If there is anything, it will be minimal.

At least it's not like 2002. Similar damage in Japan took 2 hours to repair.

Cheers. I hoped that Button would get a podium but with no rain I think he's probably screwed.

Seeing that reminded me of the Henry Surtees accident a few years ago.
The longer this goes on the more chance of a shower later in the race.

Massa was running very close to the back of Kobayashi and didn't have a clear view of Kimi, it also looked like Massa was shaping up to go past Kobayashi and move right so was committed to going that way when he saw Kimi. That's just the way it looked to me anyway.

How that barrier repair coming along?

There was one guy with a spanner initially, someone must have had a word because there seems to be about 20 lads working on it now.:)

Looking at the replays its clear if Massa had not spun the car he would have T-boned Kimi.

Why couldn't they just plump a tyre wall in front of the barriers and get going again?

Tyre barrier there would do more harm than good in a crash. It would have to be 3 tyres deep,. and would be then too close to teh track.

The cars could have torn through the barrier and a rough edge in the wrong place could have been fatal.
