Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Get off Giroud. You're doing more harm than good.

Benzema is so over rated. France seem uninterested here.

Yeah despite not winning one in 18 years.

Made the Quarters in every World cup in history though, haven't they?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭the incredible pudding

Yeah despite not winning one in 18 years.

18s not a multiple of 4, what are you on? They've also nearly always get to the Semi finals. They're amazingly consistent at this level.

The WC is not the only tournament. The one they won in 96 wasnt a WC

This is the France everyone expected to turn up in Brazil. Awful.

"Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win."

Fair amount of chasing in this game anyway

They desperately lack a leader out there.

The had some moments, but overall, you wouldn't have thought France were playing for a spot in the semi finals till the last 10 minutes or so. Germany weren't great themselves. Hummels easily MOTM.

That was a bit of a disappointment. France never got going.

Bit of a limp effort from France. Dechamps should have kept Cabaye on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,066 ✭✭✭Washington Irving

    Disappointing.

No fight in the French side at all. Germany not massively impressive either but did enough.

Feck it! never bet against Ze Germans. There're too cute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,673 ✭✭✭AllGunsBlazing

Played it like it was a friendly and got what they deserved. Which was nothing.

Unlucky Benzema at the end. With that my top scorer bet is gone!

Awful stuff. One of the worst matches of the tournament. Germany not very good, but France looked like they'd had enough of the World Cup.

Not really a classic match, disappointed in the French.

Poor enough game, expected better. Good old Germans keep on going, without playing that well apart from Portugal game.

In fairness, you took the day off work. Your expectations were going to be hard to meet.

    Was pretty dour alright.

Last 10 minutes were quite bizarre and limp. You'd never think France were 1-0 down in a World Cup quarter final, such was there lack of urgency.

Poor match overall, without any team playing well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,292 ✭✭✭Adamocovic

Ah piss off Ferdinand saying France missed Ribery in this tournament and if he was here today they would have won, Ribery is a great player without question but without him France were able to play a different style and did well. With Ribery France always look to pass the ball to him but without him Valbuena and Griezmann were given more of the ball and able to play a different style that worked very well.

They came up against a good defence today and didn't take their chances, Neuer and Hummels kept them at bay. I wouldn't say the reason they didn't win was because they were missing Ribery at all.

Delighted to see the French knocked out, they should have been out in the last round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭DubDani

Wasn't a great game, but has IMO also not been as bad as people are making it out.

Efficient game from the Germans, who just seemed to want it more. Shocked how little France produced in the last 30 minutes. Would have expected more, but in fact all the real chances were from the Germans towards the end.

Well deserved IMO, and they will give Columbia a great game in the Semis. :D

When it comes to the World Cup or any other big tournaments it's not about entertaining the fans, it's about results and Germany did what they had to do so hats off to them

The difference toward this French team to the American team the other night is extraordinary, if your gonna go out do it with a bit of fight and passion and dont come off the pitch with any regrets. Spineless French team.

Doesn't mean that we can't be disappointed in a poor match.

Anyone think the goal was a foul by Hummels on Verane?

At the very least if it wasn't a free kick, then the German freekick that led to it wasn't one, they were very similar.

Still France had the chances to score and were let down time and again. Benzema was very poor.

Pogba was brilliant in the first half but disappeared in the second. None of the French players played for the full 90mins really.

Germany were efficiant, nothing special, but will be very difficult to beat.

Probably been said a thousand times on the thread, but Mark Lawrenson is a miserable cnut. Sounded like he'd rather be anywhere else.

Meh. I think it's about a bit of both. Sure results are important, but millions of people are watching the tournament for its entertainment value. Honestly the attitude of many of the Latin American teams has made the tournament what it is. They tend to be very free flowing and attacking and they make it exciting to watch.

He always does, he could pick out a negative on anything! If you told him you passed a test he'd argue the questions were too easy!

I think he deserved it and apart from his goal, some of his defensive positioning was excellent.

I don't think it was a foul by Hummels, he had Varane at arm's distance but wasn't holding him or anything, he was just stronger and gauged the flight of the ball better. Varane, as a defender, needed to get himself closer in the first place. The free for the goal was soft though.

Germany weren't that great except defensively, where they'd some very good performances. Boateng and Howedes were both good, Lahm very good and Hummels was immense.

France should have taken one of their half chances though, a bit more luck and they probably would have scored. It's right to criticise their lack of passion and urgency, they've no real leaders in the team. The substitutions were baffling though, they should have went for a diamond if they wanted to go with two up front, sure Evra and Debuchy don't like to defend anyway and they needed to keep control of the center.
