Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Exactly.. talking rubbish about the decline of the great footballing powers.. just look at the semi-final line-up.

Yeah, but you gotta love him including England in that list. Since when have they been a World Power....1966? :p

Dutch caught offside 11 times. That's just crazy.

    Uruguay got caught 6x
    Italy 11x
    England 1x
    Greece 10x

It is really Costa Rica operating a very good off side trap

And unsurprising miraculous recovery once the ball was kicked out.

Does RVP understand the off side rule at all ?

It's Costa Rica's defensive high line. It never works you know.

Technical question....what is the definition of an offside position if the head and torso are leaning forward and jut into an offside position but both feet are behind/in line with the defender? Just having a "debate" with my brother. Neither of us are certain but my gut feeling is that they are onside, but he says offside.

I'm sure Danny Murphy is a nice chap but how the hell does he get a job at the Beeb.

Italy had 11 offsides in 90 mins vs Costa Rica.

On offside. Remember Andy Grey and Sky going on about 'daylight' between the striker and the last man?

Any part of the body you can score a goal with is deemed offside.

Offside. A part of the attackers body that they can legitimately score with is ahead of the defender.

Its offside because you can score with your head.

My football playing nephew said any part of the body he can score with counts as offside

I would say offside as the head and torso indicates forward momentum putting him ahead of the defender, but I'm talking out of my hole so don't quote me on that.

If any part of the body you can score with is offside, then you're offside.

Edit - think he knows now!

Offside. If any part of the body that's eligible to touch the ball is past the defender it's offside. If there's an arm past the defender it's onside.

Why wait until extra time to make changes?
Are they playing for extra time?
Would love to to see a costa Rican goal and see what the Dutch are made of.

Costa Rica to win on penalties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭A Primal Nut

If there is one rule I'd like to ee changed it's kicking the ball out of play because an opponent is injured. If a player goes down injured...tough. A team shouldn't have to interrupt their attack because an opponent player is injured. Ruiz pretended he was injured there so Netherland would have to stop their attack. As soon as the dutch player hit the ball out he was up, not a bother on him. Another possible change would be that if the ball goes out of of play because a player is injured he should have to prove he was injured by staying off the pitch for the next five minutes.
