car hire in Australia - no credit card

    I'm going to Australia in a few days and I need to hire a car but I've got no credit card - does anyone know a company that will accept debit card? Any suggestions really appreciated!

    In Perth I've used bayswater car rentals on a debit card and haven't had any problems.

    I've used Budget recently using a debit card. As long as your debit card is a Visa debit card it's usually fine.

    Hertz in Melbourne allowed me to book with Mastercard debit a while ago, in case that's useful.
