We have had our house insurance through B/i (RSA) for nearly 20 years & every few years I've phoned around and there's been not much difference in premium on offer from other companies.
This year we've got two quotes from lesser known companies (Allianz & IPF) for half the amount b/I are charging for same level of cover. Phoned b/i and they said they were not changing their quote.
OK it's obvious we should move but just wondering if anyone's noticed that big of a discrepancy between B/I and other companies re: house insurance???

I got an online quote from FBD for €100 less than my Axa renewal quote which included all sorts of so-called 'loyalty' discounts. Axa said they couldn't match it so I moved.

Firstly, Allianz wouldn't be a lesser known company. They are one of the largest insurers in the world and have been in Dublin for decades. IPF are not an insurer, they are Financial Advisers, specialising in life and pensions by the look of their website. Did IPF say which insurer they were quoting you?

Try a good general insurance broker, as well as some of the major online offerings such as Zurich, Aviva, 123.ie, Chill etc

I'd never take insurance through any bank, it is not their core business, so I wouldn't have confidence in dealing with them

I took my house insurance with BoI when I first moved into my house, mainly so I'd have one less thing to go ringing around about. But banks are one of the most expensive insurance providers in my experience and seem to rely on people's laziness to go and look for a better offer than anything else. I moved a year or two after I took out my mortgage and have never gone back to them. My insurance when I left halved and while I've had a few fluctuations they haven't been considerable.
