It also looks like the new Leinster jersey will once again struggle to sell.

Maybe Leinster should change their colours to red so?

Copeland seems to be wearing the red top with red stripes when getting gumshield fitted

Very similar to the European jersey. No white stripes on the arm/shoulder.

    Seems a fair swap.

    Seems a fair swap.

Hmm I'm not a fan of taking players under contract but a player swap makes it more palatable.

Ummm, the "fair swap" comment was a bit tongue in cheek. I don't think GVDH would make it any more palatable to Connacht fans.

    But this isn't even a rumour, it's a guy asking a question.

Connacht are fairly light on Senior centres (Bundee, Henshaw and McSharry) so it wouldn't be a good move to lose one of them.

Munster are even lighter on centres really

We may not be depending on where Earls is used and how Matt D'Arcy goes.

I like Earls as a centre, but he's a world class winger, thats where he should be playing.
At the moment, we probably don't have an actual centre in the squad bar Bohane. I'm all for giving D'Arcy a shot, but to placing huge expectations on his shoulders at the seasons start is a bit too much I think

    Saili? Hurley?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,169 ✭✭✭Wang King

    Saili? Hurley?

Saili won't be here until November, its going to take a while for him to settle, he's a 12, Hurley is a decent fb, converted to a competent inside center, but that's all, we need signings

No and no. Neither will be moving province

Shane O Leary likely to get much more time in centre this season, on senior contract... but theyre not going to lose 1 of those 3 this season.

Munster during the RWC will be looking like

    FR: Archer/Botha/Cronin, Casey, Kilcoyne/Cronin
    SR: Foley, DOC, Holland
BR: CJ, Copeland, JOD, maybe TOD
    SH: TOL, Williams
    OH: Keatley, TB
Centre: Hurley and Saili (is he playing ITM?)
    Wing: Conway, GvH
    FB: Zebo maybe?

Not a bad team overall, maybe light at wing or FB.

You dont think zebo will be in the wc squad?

If Earls and Jones both go (as per the prediction), Zebo won't.

I wouldn't be too sure about Henshaw. There's every likelihood he will be coming to Munster. Defo won't be Leinster.

He wont be moving any time soon well at least until 2016 and I don't see him going then
And GDVH def isn't moving West...

I think there's a very good chance he won't be.

From the training squad announced I think it'll be 7 players from the below to cover the centre and wing.

    Henshaw, Payne, D'arcy, Reid, Cave
Bowe, Trimble, Zebo, Fitzgerald, McFadden, Gilroy, Earls, DK

There's strong competition in the squad where alot of guys have had games/good few games/seasons where they've been stand out players for Ireland.

I can see a specialist centre being picked too so that only leaves 3 spots where guys like Earls and Fitz will rank highly for their versatility. If given the choice of 1 of Trimble, McFadden, Zebo, or Gilroy I wouldn't be picking Zebo.

He needs to be playing HC rugby though.

Henshaw will be staying with Connacht to the end of the 2015/16 season.
Connacht have a chance of making the Champion's Cup for the following season if they win the Challenge Cup or finish top 6 in the Pro12.
With a bit of luck they could retain Henshaw for the following season if the requirement is that he must play in the Champion's Cup for Irish selection going forward.
It's not decided yet that he will leave Connacht at all after next season.
Is there any reason Connacht couldn't afford to hold on to him if they do achieve qualification to the Champion's Cup?
Isn't it the IRFU that will pay his wages, and Is there any reason for them to object.to him staying in Connacht in that case?

I already have the European jersey from last year which is very similar but I love the new home jersey.

Very nice kit, and it looks a million times better than the current one. The navy shoulders were brutal.

I don't like the black but if the red one has white shorts and red socks it'll look absolutely class.

And as .ak said the collars look great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Bar the collar, it seems to be the same as the European jersey last season.

So yup, my European jersey is good for two more years. :D

I wouldn't say we need signings. I forgot Rory Scannell too who did well in his Pro12 outings. I think Hurley is more than competent and he flourished when he was alongside Earls. We missed a bit of a gem in Chris Farrell but by the sounds of it he wanted a fresh start away from Ireland, not just Ulster.

Given the depth in wingers (Zebo, Conway, ROM, GVDH) I reckon Earls will be used in the centre. Although Foley favoured Hurley-Smith which never truly clicked IMO.

The away jersey looks suspiciously like Munster are about to announce they've been twinned with Saracens...
