Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

They were expecting trouble and there wasn't a peep from anyone.

I've never seen John Hayes crying before in his 100+ Ireland caps. Or Jerry Flannery? Ireland have played England on many occasions over the years. Why do you think they were displaying so much emotion before this game?

How would you title the sculpture?

Good grief, way to move the goalposts. I say I don't like the title of the sculpture and now you accuse me of trying to downplay the match.

Also, expecting trouble and expecting riots are two very different things. Was a riot like event like LR 1995 ever really feared by anyone? That's not my recollection.

Do you know what I consider to be a day that changed Ireland? The day of the marriage referendum result. In the context of that, I don't consider an Ireland vs England rugby match to be of the same national importance.

Anyway I'll leave it at that as I'm over-analysing a title of a bloody sculpture.

He's gone I thought. He's not on the squad page and with Sherry nearing a return he's no longer needed.

Imo he would be very much needed as he vastly improved our scrum. Very disappointed to see him go. Sherry has been out for so long no one can be confident in what type of player we will be getting back.

Genuine question, if you are not down playing the match, what are you doing? I think most people think it was more than just a sporting occasion. Apologies if I've got you wrong, but are you saying it was just a sporting occasion?

As for the naming of the sculpture - I imagine they wanted people to understand that it isn't a statue to Paul O'Connell.

edit: as for the riots - I was thinking more of maybe riots in Dublin in 2006 (the year before this) at the Love Ulster parade.

Am I downplaying the match? No.
Was it more than just a sporting occasion? Yes. It was nice that there was no aggro or trouble at the match and that history/politics etc could be put to one side.

Here's the key point. Do I think was "the day that changed Ireland"? No.

I'm going to put it down to financial constraints. If Guinazu was extended there would have been five senior hookers on the books. The squad numbers have been cut this year so I don't think you could justify paying five players for one position.

Ya I suppose. But he wouldn't be the one I'd be letting go. He would start at no. 2 for me. Shame.

    He's not on here: http://www.munsterrugby.ie/rugby/first_team_squad.php

It's a reasonable assumption no? Training has already resumed.

So Sherry, Scannell & O'Byrne plus one academy? Scannell and O'Byrne have frighteningly few Munster caps between them

Picked the away jersey up in Dundrum shopping centre. Only a handful of the away jerseys on display. It's a nice shirt alright.

yeah hope they do, 70 is a bit steep for a jersey and you cant beat the temptation of getting a new polo shirt too.

Interesting piece in the examiner http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/rugby/johne-murphy-ready-for-life-after-munster-as-french-club-hovers-344952.html
    But in short :
    • Gerry Hurley (played with us last year for a bit) is now headed for Federale 1 side Rugby Olympique de Grasse
    • Barry O’Mahony has been forced to retire
    • Johnny Murphy considering offers inside and outside rugby so doesn't look like the year spent on the bench has impressed too many clubs..
    • Ivan Dineen looks ot be possibly leaving rugby altogether

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Grasse is just north of Cannes. I'm sure that's a great spot!

Really? Dineen was pretty average. Dad being a Munster folk hero got him pretty far. The leaked spreadsheet wasn't too complimentary.

Fair enough on the leaked spreadsheet comment, but to say that he got far because of his Dad is not fair. No matter where you come from or who your Dad is everyone should be judged on performances.

I am sure that being the son of a legend will bring its own pressures and expectations.
