    Hi,
Have my cousins 8&9 coming up to Dublin on their holidays...I am entertaining them and I am looking for some cheap and cheerful things for them to do over the next few days. They havent been up before so they are super excited...Even excited about going on a bus haha
I am taking them on Viking Splash Tour and probably the zoo..both are expensive so if anyone knows of any other nice activities I would be very grateful.:)

Perhaps a tour of Croke park if they like GAA?
As a kid, I loved going on a drive near the docks to see poolbeg and the ferries coming in and out.

Bus to St. Anne's park. Bring a cheap football.
    Trees, bushes, fun galore.

I think the Ferris Wheel is in Dun Laoghaire at the moment, you could get the DART out, get a teddy's ice cream and walk the pier....maybe crepes after from the market in the park.

Fort Lucan is pretty cool, close to Phoenix park and pretty reasonable.

Children's workshops in the Hugh Lane Gallery, most are €5

Make Shop walk in workshops, 3 of them are only a tenner (the robot, clock & LED torch ones)

+1 to the Dead Zoo! The National History Museum around the corner is also free (bog bodies!) and Merrion Square across the way from it has a playground and interesting statues and things to look at.

Howth for Fish & Chips and the chance to see seals.

Trip into the food market in Meeting House Square on the Saturday

Keep an eye on the Happenings facebook page too, they run open air cinemas on nice evenings

Visit Dublin have a list of child friendly events too

[But I note Avenue Q is listed as child friendly. nuh huh!!]

Highly, highly recommend. It's such a great day out.
Make sure you get in early to get a good seat.

If they're running something on the day (usually a Saturday), The Ark in Temple Bar have activities for children that are supposed to be fun and usually free.

It is a great weekend alright! It's been renamed and changed about a bit this year but still lots of fun stuff and still in Merrion Square :)

You're spoiling them nicely there, they'll love that. There's a new zipline in St. Anne's park in Raheny and another large playground aimed towards older kids in the grounds of Malahide castle. (with another zipline)

More background would be helpful, if the are coming from a beach area or farm area there's no point in us pointing you towards pet farms or beaches... Also, when are they visiting? Could be a festival on.

I don't see why you'd need to spend any money other than bus fares - parks, beach, coast, mountains - thousands of things for kids to do. Think 'before the internet and TV' - the things we did then are fun still - maybe even more so for kids raised on screens and technology.

Actually the open top bus tour can be a great hit for tbe novelty alone.

    Thanks for all the suggestions...
They are from the country/farm..Totally excited just to be in Dublin but like to be active...They are up until Friday...We went to the Zoo and park/playground/picnic today... They saw a bus tour going through the Park today so they wanna sit on the bus with no roof!! (the innocence is such a rarity these days, they were mesmerised by the M50! :D
The red tour bus is free for kids too and they will get a nice tour out of it...
    Viking Splash tour afterwards..

Great stuff, you have nice weather.

    It's gas, relatives of mine have kids that come to Dublin for;

    The Dart
    The Luas
Double Decker Bus (must sit upstairs at the front)
Epicurean Food Hall (each person must order from a different restaurant)
Dollymount or Poolbeg (watch the ships)
    The Airport viewing carpark
    Buskers in town
Shouting back at the viking splash tourists
